Lightning Damage Claim

Last week, there was a lightning strike in the area which took out everything connected by coax cable to include cable box, modem router, AV receiver, and television.  I inspected the side of my house where the Comcast coax cable is and main line cable and splitters were on the ground, not enclosed in a box.  The coax cable was bull exposed and not grounded.

I had a Comcast tech come out and he was appalled at the cabling outside.  He installed and mounted an enclosure box and grounded the wire.   The tech also mentioned about filing a damage claim.

Please assist.

We recently encountered a lightning damage incident as well. The lightning took out 3 of the 4 items in our surge protector...the only common denominator here, is that our modem/router, was connected to the t.v. and xbox via ethernet.  These three items all became inoperable, with singe marks by the ethernet connection,  on the motherboards..our neighbors also have the same exact issue..theres approximately 4 units, all who's electronic equipment were affected by xfinity modems. We think there was a grounding issue that when the lightning hit, it teaced up into the coax, to the router, then through the ethernet cables

Hello, @Baseball1132, I hope your Friday is going well and you have fun plans for the weekend! It's heartbreaking to know a lightning strike caused damage to three of your electronics. TVs and Xboxes are not cheap, so I know how disappointing this is. I remember this happened to me in the past with my PlayStation 3. Even on a good surge protector a storm took it out. I hope everyone is okay after the lighting strike.

When it comes to acts of nature and electronics being damaged, we can't take any actions to replace them, but we can make sure your service is working. Is your modem and service working properly? If yes, did you need to get a new modem?
