I NEED AN IMMEDIATE REMEDY - Debt Collector is violating FCRA & FDCPA
I have been dispting a collection account off of my credit report for almost 2 years for a Comcast account that was closed and paid in full. The debt collector continued arguing with me that the debt was verified (that is impossible I have the credit from Comcast to prove it).
I told the debt collector I will pay the bill, even though it was inacccurate, with the condition they would remove it from my credit report because I am in the process of trying to get a loan and the collection account is impacting me significantly.
Now they are saying 4 months later they will not remove it because they don't do that.
I made them listen to the recorded call where the rep agreed to remove it from my report, and they said that it's too late because I already paid-and that is an acknowlegement of the accuracy of the charge.
Now it seems my only alternative is to get an attorney involved with will cost me a few thousand dollars, for a $274 bill - that I paid for no reason apparantly.
