I have Comcast/Xfinity and a 1GB Gateway for internet access and streaming to the TV.
I have 3 laptops in the house of varying ages (none really THAT old), all in Windows 10, all with latest updates. Two have identical wifi network adapters (Intel Dual-band AC 3165 and latest Intel drivers (19.51.29.1). Both of these usually have a network adapter status of full signal (all bars) and 390-433 Mbps to the adapter, sometimes a bit lower. The newer of the 3 machines, has a Killer WiFi 6 AX1650w 160Mhz wifi adapter with Intel 21.90.2.1 and has a status of 833Mbps consistently. On paper all blazing fast.
The laptop with the Killer Wifi Adapter always displays SpeedTest or similar measuring tool speeds of 550-620Mbps. Cranking fast. Xfinity test speeds in the 300-500Mbps range.
Ethernet connections confirm the speed to the Gateway through coax is as advertised. If I had a wired network we'd all be very happy.
BUT:
The other two machines (Dell Inspiron 5770 and Inspiron 5567) NEVER have speeds over 200Mbps and USUALLY exhibit speeds in the 5-45Mbps range, and it ranges all over the place, never steady. When this happens I always check the fast machine. Still fast. And my android phone is very fast too.
All 3 laptops, oddly, have fast upload speeds measured around 39-42Mbps. That shows me the signal is strong and at least perform uploads similarly.
So I'm curious: why is one machine always really really fast, and the other two always much slower? How do I even begin to diagnose this? I ran the network adapter troubleshooter and got the error in the subject title. I have run all the CMD line flush suggestions with no help. The error is still there.

We've seen posts here that show that some Dell computers have a program that limits download speeds (like a form of a QoS feature). I don't know the name of it, sorry, but if you can find it, remove it and see. YMMV. Good luck !

I think Smartbyte is the thing on Dells that people disable to get better benchmarks. (Though I don't know if optimizing a benchmark necessarily makes your overall internet experience better. Ie: a QoS thing that stops a benchmark from monopolizing the network might actually be a good thing on a day-to-day basis.)

It's not SmartByte, I'm aware of that evil service. I checked the newer Laptop from Dell and didn't find it in services but I deleted that in days within receiving the laptop.
That said, even if a throttling service were in place, I'm not sure how the error I receive on these two laptops (see thread title) would generate this error:
"your device appears to be correctly configured but the device or resource (dns server) is not responding"
