Xfinity XB8 Question

Greetings!

I have Xfinity's 2 Gbps service using their XB8 Gateway. Using Ethernet Port 4 (2.5 Gbps) on the rear of the XB8, I've routed Ethernet to a TP Link BE63/BE10000 used as the Main Router for my Mesh Network. One of the Ethernet Ports on the rear if the BE63, is connected to a TRENDnet TLE-3102WS 10 Port Managed Switch. This gives me the ability to connect other devices via Ethernet at up to Xfinity's provided speeds.

Last month (June 2026), and again last night (7/21/2026), Thunderstorms rolled through killing my network. A quick test (both occurrences) revealed the Xfinity equipment was still working. I switched my WiFi and Ethernet back over to the XB8 from my BE63 (MESH Network), because the Main BE63 was frozen with a Solid Red Indicator Light. After resetting power, the unit does not boot up (Solid Yellow Indicator Light). After last month's loss, I sent the defective BE63 back to TP Link for a replacement. The replacement unit is what failed last night.

In addition to losing the 2 TP Link BE63s, I've lost the 2 Ethernet Ports on the TRENDnet TPE-3102WS that the BE63's were connected to at the time of their failure. One port failed each time I lost a BE63.

All my equipment in/near my Rack is on a UPS and 2 Surge Protectors.

Are there issues with Xfinity's XB8's taking out other equipment? I don't want to risk losing any more equipment.

Thanks and stay blessed.

user_ckvhl3 Power can travel through an Ethernet cable, but haven't heard of any problems with that causing other devices to go bad without also causing the gateway to also get damaged. Do you have the gateway on a surge protector as well?
