xfinity speed is slow

Just had xfinity internet today with 1 GB speed but the performance is worse than 400MB I had with FIOS. How do I know I am getting the speed I paid for ?

Hello user_9707bd, you're in the right place for assistance with your internet speeds. It's always a good suggestion to try rebooting the modem first, please unplug the equipment for 20-30 seconds and then reconnect it. Also if you can please provide your speed results here.

Is that with a WiFi connection ? If so, for a test, does a computer / device that is hardwired directly to the router / gateway device with an ethernet cable have the same problem ?

@EG thank you I appreciate it. I am now thinking of exercising buyer's remorse and switching out

We would hate to lose you, @user_9707bd! Even on a wireless connection, you should be getting more than 400 Mbps/down on a Gigabit plan. If you could send us a direct message we can dig into this a bit more. To do so, follow these steps:

Click "Sign In" if necessary

 • Click the "Peer to peer chat" icon (upper right corner of this page)

 • Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

 • Type "Xfinity Support" in the to line and select "Xfinity Support" from the drop-down list

 • Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window

 • Press Enter to send your message

We'll continue assisting you there!

I no longer work for Comcast.

Gee, this seems to be a standard problem. I pay for 400 mbps and get 90 whether it is hardwired or WiFi. Tech came out and ran a new wire from the pole saying the old one was bad, but no improvement. Calls to tech just lead to rebooting and resetting the modem over and over again. My modem is new, but I even tried my old modem and got the same speed. It isn’t my modem.

Yeah, funny that the modem is also provided by Xfinity. I also have billing issues, despite conversations on recorded phone lines/chats the actual bill is not consistent with the promise. I wish telco was regulated and someone was answerable to these inconsistencies, the outsourced chat agents are just playing sales games
