Xfinity Pod - Ethernet cable works for desktop but not for 3 different laptops

I want to connect a laptop with dodgy wifi adapter (older computer) but with a working fine ethernet port to a pod.   When the laptop is connected via cable to the gateway everything works fine.   So, we know it's not the cable or the computer.   When I hook the laptop to a pod using an ethernet cable, I get either no cable detected, or a cable detected with no internet available. 

If I hook the same cable (with no internet) to my desktop PC, which I am typing this on using the ethernet cable connected to the pod, it works fine.   So...how can this work differently for laptops and desktops?   I've tried two different cables (both cables work when connected to the gateway; not to the pod).   The pod is literally brand-new out of the box a few hours ago and there are several wifi devices connected to the pod.   It's only the ethernet connect and only to laptops (tried 3 different laptops) that are not working.  

Did make sure that the wifi was not connected before we connected the ethernet.  

Tried:

- troubleshooting ethernet connection; nothing

- removing ethernet adapter and reinstalling; nope

- removing device from wifi devices on Xfinity app; nada.

What can I possibly be missing?

It’s definitely a puzzling situation since the Boost Pod is clearly working well with your desktop, but not with the laptops. Based on what you’ve shared, it seems the issue lies somewhere between the pod and the laptops, and we’re ready to dive in and explore this further.

Some older laptops may have Ethernet drivers that don’t fully align with the auto-negotiation settings of newer devices like the pod. A good first step is ensuring the Ethernet drivers on your laptops are fully updated from the manufacturer’s website. Are all the laptops similar models, or are they different brands? That information might help pinpoint a common factor.

Thanks!.   These are 3 different laptops, one Dell, one Lenovo and one Asus.   None are working and all get the same error that "an ethernet cable is not properly plugged in or might be broken".     I do know how to plug an Ethernet cable in and tried 2 cables.   So...clearly not that.    But what would make it so that from the pod it doesn't recognize that a cable is attached?

I tried updating the Ethernet driver on the Dell (the only one I have access to at the moment) and getting the same result.   So, I don't think it's the driver; or at least not that driver.

@cleetus8t88 When you connect the Ethernet to your laptop, can you make sure that it isn't trying to categorize it as a metered connection? Also, can you check to see if device sharing is on?
