xfinity modem in bridge mode; it works but app shows as unavailable

The subject really says it all.  Today, I picked up an Xfinity Gateway, set it up in bridge mode so I could use my wi-fi router.  The process was not super-smooth, but eventually it worked, and I am typing on a computer connected to this network right now.  However, the xfinity app shows the modem as "status unavailable".  With my previous owned modem, this was not the case -- the xfinity app connected with my modem just fine.

Incidentally, the reason for this switch is that my old modem started consuming insane amounts of data, like far more than I could possibly use.  After I got past multiple people trying to upsell me, someone convinced me to switch for an xfinity modem as a troubleshooting measure.  But I need to be able to monitor data consumption on the app, or else I won't know if the modem is fixing the problem or not.  So kind of key to make sure that it is still updating.

What I think is going on is that the xFi Gateways in bridge mode do not play nice with the Xfinity App (formerly xFi App).

What I would do as an alternative, is to use the Xfinity My Account app and go the Internet tab. Or by using the website directly to check: https://customer.xfinity.com/#/services/internet

@jweaver0312 I have this same issue. Even when I use the Xfinity App on my phone, with wifi disabled so it's using my mobile data, I get this error. So it has nothing to do with the network that is being used when trying to use the app. It seems more like it's punishment for not using the Xfinity Modem with all the default features enabled.

I'm using my Xfinity Modem in bridge mode with an Eero mesh network. From my Eero network, I can monitor data consumption.
