Xfinity: Loyalty Should Not Be a Penalty

I have been an Xfinity customer for more than ten years, and I do not need another scripted “thank you for your loyalty.” I need that loyalty reflected in how you treat your customers.

What I find appalling is the recurring renewal cycle: higher prices, limited packages, and no reasonable way to maintain the same internet speed at the same price. Then comes the explanation: “That offer is only available to new customers.” How is rewarding someone who just arrived while charging established customers more considered customer appreciation?

To Xfinity’s executives and shareholders: long-standing customers provide the recurring revenue that supports your profits, dividends, and executive compensation. Treating us as a captive source of ever-increasing payments is corporate greed—not customer loyalty.

Too many of my calls have involved rude, unprofessional agents offering the same sales pitch: add phone service, and maybe—yes, maybe— your bill can be reduced. Pushing an unwanted service as the possible solution to an inflated internet bill is a manipulative and deeply objectionable sales tactic.

My frustration is straightforward: after more than a decade of paying for your service, every renewal feels like another attempt to extract more money while narrowing my choices. Customers should not have to negotiate repeatedly to avoid being penalized for staying. In my experience, this approach is unscrupulous and shows contempt for the people sustaining your business.

Companies as large and seemingly untouchable as Xfinity have lost their position when greed overtook customer trust. Market dominance is not permanent, and customers’ patience is not unlimited. Prioritizing shareholder payouts and executive rewards at customers’ expense may serve short-term interests, but it creates an opening for competitors.

When stronger competitors offer fair, honest pricing without the renewal games and unwanted bundles, Xfinity should not mistake customers’ departure for disloyalty. It will be the consequence of its own choices.

Fair pricing. Clear choices. Transparency. Basic principles that, in my experience, Xfinity abandoned long ago.

I agree completely. I watched all year as Comcast blasted the $50/month promotion all over the place. I called and tried to get it, but I was told I was on a one year plan, and the promotion wasn't available to me until that year was up. I contemplated cancelling and signing up again (I've done that twice in 25 years), and I should have.  Well, here we are and my year is up. New customer can get 1 gig for $60 for 5 years. Long time existing customer (me) can get the same service for $65/month. Looks like I will have to go the cancel route unless @Xfinity Support is able to offer something better. Please don't ask for PM from us unless you actually can offer something better Please let us know if you cannot as well. That's called honesty and transparency, and customer really appreciate it.

My town, Los Alamos, NM, is literally building out fiber in our town, and I will have fiber to my house in about a year. The local fiber project has been in the works for more than 20 years, and it's almost here! My house is phase 5, and phase 1 is starting now. I will get 1 gig, symmetrical, for $49/month. Here that Xfinity? No data caps either! Heck, I could get 8gig for $69/month, but then I need to buy a pretty expensive 10 gig router. For $79 I can get 8gig with a ISP provided 10gig router. I would still need to buy a few switches. :-)

In any event, Me and my wife and our dog don't need faster than a gig, so we will go with that option. Until then, I'm stuck as a second class customer on the Xfinity network.

An @Xfinity Support folks, are you able to offer anything better than what phone support or my Xfinity account online can offer? Twice now I posted about similar situations, where I was unhappy with the options Xfinity support can offer, and twice I contacted you folks here because you implied you can do better. Both times all you were able to offer was exactly the same as support and web based options available through my account. If you are actually able to offer rates/promotions that are better than what customer support can offer, please let us know and you will be heroes. If you cannot, also please let us know.

Thanks (really)
