Xfinity Gateway xFi and a Network Switch (Cisco 2960-X)

Hi, so I am very new at this. I'm trying to learn more about switch configuration. My work is dumping several switches, and with my supervisor's approval, I can take one home instead. I figured I can try practicing at home. But I am not quite sure how to set it up.
The switch is a Cisco 2960-X series - 48port, and I was wanting to have this connected to my Xfinity gateway router, so I can distribute more Ethernet ports for whichever devices I have (ex TV for faster streaming, ps4, computers). Can I do that? If so, what would be the best method to accomplish this?

Yes you can as long as your Xfinity gateway device is in its default router mode and not in bridge mode. Connect its input port to any port on the gateway device.

As EG stated, you can indeed use the device at home I would suggest you download the manual for it, and also search on Youtube for videos on using the device.  You should also ask before bringing it home if the device has been returned to factory defaults, and whether or not it is running any special firmware/software on it.  Sometime companies have these devices modified for their own particular needs, and this can affect how you interact with the device and how the device interacts with both the WAN and LAN.

Good luck, and have fun!  Learning networking is very fulfilling.
