Xfinity Admin Gateway | Block Youtube
Im trying to block Youtube from the Xfinity Gateway and it is not working. Apparently you cant block Youtube from the Xfinity Gateway. The Gateway doesnt really work. Here is a link saying that Xfinity knows about the issue and is trying to resolve it.
Heres my issue as it stands now. The Gateway can work, sometimes. Currently it is blocking 2 of the 3 sites Ive asked it to block. One site I am trying to block is Youtube.com. When I block Youtube.com I cant seem to access any other Google products other than Gmail. Since we are doing online school for the kids this year, and we use Google Classroom, they cant access what they need for school and not block the distraction Youtube.com causes.
Ive contacted support, 1-800-xfinity, with no answer other then to install an anti virus software. That makes no sense in terms of the modem blocking a website from a specific device's MAC address. So my question to Xfinity is this, does this work or not. Their are many instances, especially since Covid, where parents are asking for a functioning firewall. You advertise one, to a degree, but their are many forum posts that say it does not work. And this post is made in hopes to get the attention of someone that can fix it.
Again, if you want the Gateway to work, it might sometimes, but it has massive issues. If you want it to block Youtube so you can leave your kid at a computer to do school work while you attend to your job, chores, errands. This isnt the answer, find an alternative one. And to Xfinity, if it doesnt work, dont offer support for it. Just say it doesnt work. Id rather not have the option of using it and spend hours trying to get someone to walk we through the existing documentation only to find out that it was always broken.

I'm dealing with the same issue. I was super happy when i read this ability existed in the gateway admin portal, but it has not worked AT ALL. If this is not a top feature for Xfinity while everyone is home schooling, I don't know what is. Please find a solution so parents can manage child access to technology and keep us sane.

So funny story, I also tried blocking youtube as a keyword... and it worked... on the wrong devices! It is blocking youtube for my and my wifes phones, which are set to trusted, and my kids chromebooks can still access youtube even though they're listed as untrusted. So yeah.

@ComcastJoeTru Will you help the 100's of other customers like us that have also been posting on this same topic? This is the first time I've seen a Comcast employee reach out on one of the posts related to parental controls that do NOT work. It would be awesome if someone could actually fix this service which is so needed at the moment. Please help!
