xFinity 2G vs 1200Mbps X2

This is informational, rather than a question.

For more than 6 months, I ran 1200Mbps X2 using an Arris G36 modem. (Certified by Comcast for what they then called next generation.) It gave 2360/360Mbps down/up.

I had a billing question today. The agent offered me the new 2G service at a lower price. I went for it.

What he neglected to tell me was that the G36 was not approved for the new 2G service. It immediately fell back to the 1200Mbps service. I asked; I'm not permitted to revert to X2.

All was not lost. Under the 2G service, a modem is provided without a rental fee. I'm now back up with an XB8 gateway.

But the upload speed now goes to a maximum of 300Mbps. I can live with that.
