xFi required for speed upgrade?
I previously had 1.2GB service when working for a prior employer who reimbursed for my internet. While in between jobs I dropped to 400MB service and, for me, I don't see a whole lot performance difference from my end. I have a 3P 2.5GB capable modem and router setup (Arris and Orbi). I'm now onto a new home based job, and while they will not reimburse me for internet, in a weak moment I tried to upgrade my speed to 2GB through my Xfinity web portal. I would pay something like $35 more a month for the upgrade.... but Xfinity would not let me submit an order unless I clicked a box for xFi (which I completely do not need) and pay supplemental fees. I spent a 1/2 hour trying to avoid the xFi option and could find no work-around. Luckily for me, it seems Xfinity does not want to make an extra ~$400 a year from me.

Thanks for your questions about Gigabit X2, @sigs. At this time an XB7 or XB8 modem is required for that service. I do not know if that will change in the future but I know it is always being looked at. If you have a modem rental the upload speed would be 100 Mbps. If you have xFi Complete the upload speed would be 200 Mbps. We have some awesome promotions. I would be happy to check and see what the total cost would look like if you have one of our modems.
Feel free to meet us back in direct message and we will put together a quote and can make changes if you want to move forward.

My Arris S33 modem and Orbi RBK852 router are both rated to 2.5GB. If proprietary Xfinity equipment is required for fast service I’ll look for a different provider.
