Xfi pod connection issues

How do I connect 2 pods so that they extend my signal linearly, not spoke and wheel, and stay that way. My home has more distance on one side of the gateway than the other. I have tried connecting just one pod (closest to the Gateway), then once that is working, connecting the second pod. One time it did connect to the first pod, but usually it connects independently to the gateway as it is barely in range. If the closer pod disconnects it  often connects back to the farther pod, making it nearly useless. But since the closer pod is closer to my devices, they connect to it instead of the much faster gateway that is well within range. Thanks for any assistance.

user_3dvo13 - Hello, and thank you for joining us here on the Xfinity Forums! I’m really glad you reached out for tips on connecting and positioning your xFi Pods to improve your home WiFi experience. I know how important a strong, reliable connection is, and I’d be looking for the same guidance too. To help you get the best performance from your Xfinity Internet, here are a few simple but effective tips:

- Place your gateway in a central location in your home, elevated off the floor and standing upright. This helps distribute the signal more evenly.
- Keep your gateway in an open space, free from obstructions. Avoid placing it in closets, cabinets, or basements, as those can weaken your WiFi signal.
- Check all connected wires to ensure they’re secure and not loose, as that can impact performance.

Your xFi Pods work together with your gateway to create a powerful mesh network that extends WiFi coverage into harder-to-reach areas (also known as “dead spots”):

1 Pod is typically ideal for 1–2 story homes with 3–4 bedrooms
2 Pods work better for larger homes with 5+ bedrooms

Homes with multiple stories can impact things as well.

For the best results with placement:

Start by placing your first xFi Pod about 15–20 feet from your gateway to establish a strong connection.
Additional Pods should be placed halfway between the gateway and areas with weak coverage, about 30–50 feet apart.
Make sure Pods are visible and not blocked by furniture, walls, or metal objects for optimal performance.

I truly hope these tips help improve your connection! Please feel free to let me know how it goes or if you’d like help reviewing your setup. We’re always here to support you.
