xb8 wp2A printer authentication
I have the HP office pro 8600 and the XB8 router from Xfinity for wifi. I tried to use the setup wizard to have it connect to the new router. Same printer I have used in the past with their other routers. The setup wizard will see SSID but will not accept the pwd. Apparently there is an issue with WPA3 not being compatible with the setup wizard....I tried HP support and their answer is "contact xfinity or go to a wired solution". Wired doesn't work for a family these days.
I logged into the xfinity router admin at 10.0.0.1 and the feature to change off WP3A is greyed out and can't be changed. There is no way to change it to WPA2 in any of the settings. I tried manually to add the MAC address, nope that didn't work either.
I have reached out to xfinity tech support and their first tier had no answer, other than going back to a XB6 or getting a new printer.
Checking here in the forum to see if other network guru's have found a solution or if Tier 2/3 at Xfinity wants a crack at resolving this problem.

Sadly, they took 95% of the configurability out of the local gateway and moved it to the half-baked Xfinity app. You'll need to make your changes there.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to our Digital Care Team, @user_8a3b81. We can certainly help! You also may need help opening or unblocking ports on your Gateway to connect your wireless printer to your home network. You can do so by trying the steps below:
1. Open the Xfinity app and sign in with your Xfinity ID and password.
2. Select the Connect tab.
3. Select your network.
4. Select Advanced Settings under More Options.
5. Select Port Forwarding from the menu.
6. Select Add Port Forward.
Note: If you've previously set up a port forward from your Gateway's Admin Tool (https://comca.st/3R7ec8E), you should see it listed in the Port Forwarding Settings.
7. Choose the household device for the port forward you're setting up from the drop-down list of connected devices.
Note: If you don't see the device listed, it may not be connected to your home network.
8. Choose from the list of common applications to use a recommended, preset configuration (e.g., Xbox or PlayStation) or select Manual Setup to enter specific port numbers, ranges and/or protocols.
9. Select Apply Changes to complete the setup of the port forward.
10. The device you set up for this port forward can now use these settings.
Note: If you're unsure which port settings to choose, reference the device manual or the application you're trying to use. Opening unnecessary ports isn't recommended, as it may pose a security risk.
Please let us know if that helps.

@user_8a3b81 Have you tried resetting the printer to factory defaults and then set it up on the network like it's brand new? Check the HP website or Google for your printer's procedure. I had the same issue with my Canon printer when I got my XB8 two months ago. The reset worked for me. Also, on my XB8, the WPA listing is WPA3-Personal Transition and it's grayed out so it can't be changed. However, I've been told the XB8 will kick the setting back to WPA2 behind the scenes (if needed). Apparently it does because my printer's working fine.

@XfinityGabby Port Forwarding?
How is blowing holes in the man's firewall and exposing his network to the world supposed to help this problem? He's trying to hook up a local printer. The problem is the encryption settings don't work on his Xfinity gateway with crippled firmware.

You can try factory default on your gateway. If it doesn't have a toothpick push button hole, hold the WPS button down for 30 seconds or so until the lights start flashing on it, then yank the power cord. Let it discharge for a minute. Then try to get to the setting from http://10.0.0.1
You are trying to "Unstick" the crippled app that holds the settings remotely, or try to get it reset or redownload settings to your gateway and perhaps you can unstick the local or remote end with an update request. That probably won't work though. Xfinity's solution seems to be sending a different gateway as a fix to this issue.
Some HP's have "WiFi Direct" printing. There will be an icon on the printer screen if it does. The printer runs it's own access point and you can connect to that directly if you have the HP app installed on your phone or PC. It doesn't use your gateway's radio. It has it's own. It uses a separate password/pin that you can see from the printer screen. Other HP's will spit out a piece of paper with the WiFi direct password when you try to connect to it with the app. You'll have around one minute to use the password it generated. You'll likely have to be in the same room to be in range of the printer.
I don't know if that model has it. HP doesn't post the big manual for it that they usually do with the other printers, just a basic setup guide. They have a lot of different models with different features.
The real solution is to buy a 3rd party gateway you can change the settings on. You'll save $14/month doing that too instead of using their gear.
