XB8 settings reverting nightly

Every day, i log into the admin tool and disable my 6ghz network on my XB8. The following morning, the 6ghz network is back on. It seems like my wifi settings revert while we are sleeping. Any one else run into this issue?

Normal behavior. When your gateway experiences a release/renew, an update, or a scan to verify it is online, it will revert to all three bands on. Why would you want to disable the 6GHz band?

It's really due to my Apple products being uncooperative.  I live in a larger home that requires 2 Xfi Pods. Xfi pods do not have the 6ghz band. When i move throughout the house, my iPhone connects to the 6ghz at the Xb8, when i move to the basement, the iPhone cannot move from the 6ghz band to the 5ghz band on the Xfi Pod. Therefore it just moves to Cellular signal. It is incredibly annoying to the point that i just need to disable the 6ghz band.

I figured that when a software update hits that the band would turn back on but this is seriously happening every single night.

Open up the Xfinity app. Tap on the WiFi tab at the bottom. Next tap WiFi details, followed by Edit WiFi settings. What does it say in the Security mode box?

WPA2 is what the app shows but within the actual Modem Admin tool it's:

2.4 ghz - WPA2-PSK (AES)

5.0 ghz - WPA2-PSK (AES)

6.0 ghz - WPA3-Personal Only

That’s likely the issue, then.

The Security mode needs to be set to WPA3-Personal-Transition on the Xfinity app. Once you do that, I’d be willing to bet it will work as intended, with the 6GHz active.

Have you tried turning off the random MAC address feature in settings?  It is a major headache, and should be off anyway.  Try that and see if it makes a difference.

I am having trouble finding that setting in the admin tool, i see MAC filtering. Is that the same thing?

I'm not saying that it is the actual root cause of the problem, but the "MAC address randomization" feature is in the Apple device's settings, not the XB8's settings.

Hello, @user_rruc23 thank you for creating a post over Xfinity Forums. I'm glad to see that some of our awesome Xfinity Forums community members were trying to help with the XB8 settings. Were you still having issues with this?

Looking over the conversation, I did find an old Xfinity Forums post that has information about turning the MAC randomization on/off and wanted to pass this along to see if it's helpful: https://forums.xfinity.com/conversations/your-home-network/turn-on-mac-randomization/63cdddc78055430082f5b2ee

thanks for the advice but unfortunately this did not work. I believe that any time the modem is doing a power cycle, the settings are being reverted back and the 6ghz turns back on

@user_rruc23 yes, some settings will revert just about every night. The XB8 is designed to have all three bands (2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz) active at all times. It is also designed to have then combined into a single WiFi network with one SSID and password.

I highly recommend checking out this post:

Hopefully it gives you some insight, and helps you get your setup in working order.
