XB8 Peformance
While this forum is packed with complaints about unavailability, I'd like to hear from someone actually using an XB8, regarding reliability & performance. Please be detailed. Thank you.

I do not use and XB8, but it is the same with all of the hardware offered by xfinity; it is not anywhere near the level of performance you can get by buying your own hardware. You will gain a lot by buying your own; better performance, the ability to be able to have complete control over your network, you won't have the obnoxious problem where xfinity re-enables the guest network every time the device gets a release/renew command or a firmware update. You will no have to deal with xfinity deciding what parameters of your modem/router/network that you can control. You'll save the monthly 'rental' fee. The advertising is all just that...hype and hyperbole. It is not a high tech device, but one that is designed to be built cheaply, with many features disabled, and with draconian limits on how you can set up your own network.

Still looking for usage details about the XB8 (or, XB7). {FYI, I'm using an XB6, which is performing reasonably well.} Thanks.

To be honest the vast majority of reviews are mixed reviews. The XB8 has a few flaws which can be frustrating to end users. Here is an example:

and another one here:
https://nationalinterest.org/blog/buzz/why-comcast%E2%80%99s-new-wi-fi-6-router-fails-i-spent-three-days-testing-it-121796
Like so many honest reviews, the user eventually dumped the XB8 and used his own third party hardware.
Do you have any devices that are either wifi6 capable? Many are reporting issues with wifi 6 not working well (or at all) when using a mixed client environment (wifi6 clients and non-wifi6 clients).
Given that the unit is built to the minimum standards necessary to put the logos on the box, the overall consensus is that it isn't really a major upgrade over the XB7 in performance.
YMMV.
