XB8 is hot

I recently got this modem, it is up high in a completely open space, bottom and left side are cool, top, lower back and the entire right side is hot, not warm, hot.

There's a fan that commonly dies in them if it's an Xfinity gateway.  Usually makes a bunch of noise first when the bearing is failing, but might not.  Can you hear anything, or feel any air movement at all?

@flatlander3 Don't hear or feel anything, it's like a month old.

No company on earth could afford to swap hardware for a database problem, and that's their default action when settings get wrapped around the axle, or people can't change settings.

You might have a "refurbished" one, aka -- someone else's problem.

They get warm, but if it's physically uncomfortably hot, risking a house fire isn't really something I'd roll the dice on. There is also no way to look at the internal processor temp to see if that's way over the top.

Yes. A well-known problem indeed. The cooling fan is malfunctioning. There is no fix other than to get it swapped out for another. Take it to your local Xfinity store or ship it back for free via UPS and have them ship you another one. You can even get *home pickup*.

@hevy

Were you able to swap your gateway out at @EG's suggestion?

We can ship you one from our warehouse to arrive in 3-5 business days, or you can swap yours out at a local Xfinity location same-day.
