XB7 Gateway will not allow HP WiFi printer to communicate

some say you can hard code through the HP app, but i think it is a combo of wifi6, mesh, and older printer that got me...

Yes, same result.

I can try to force the IP address on the printer to be 10.0.0.x like all the rest of my network using the TCP/IP from the printer control panel.  But using the Comtrend PoE adapater which allows ethernet over powerline works great  - I currently use them for my Arlo hubs which need an ethernet connection.

Had exact same problem.Comcast techs seem to never of heard of it.Anyway i went back XBT6 after two days of trying to work it out.I believe the printer is too old to work with that router.I could not see where the XBT7 was any better,except has more ethernet ports

One would expect a new device would enable backwards compatibilty, ie, everything that connected to an XB6 would work on an XB7.

To make matters worse, comcast customer service are idiots.

I had spent about 6 hours trouble shooting the issue on my own, updating FW on the printer, connecting using WPS, connecting using USB, reseting the the printer to factory default, erasing all network settings.

I decided to call in to see if Comcast had any reports or informaton.  I asked to be connected to a network expert, having explained my HP printer would not communicate, but it was connected.

I also explained all my steps.

Guess what the first thing they did.... they remotely restarted my Gateway without telling me.  As everyone knows, we are all working from home.  My wife was on a Zoom conference call with her comapany and she was cut off becuse the Comcast agents first step is to reset the Gateway.  Then they ask me if the printer is now connected - duh!.

I tried to explain that they should never do a remote reset without informing the customer first.

Yeeeesh I just spent 3 hours working on trying to get my HP CP1525nw printer to connect to the XB7. Should've checked here first.

For what it's worth - I struggled with this for a full day (including a not helpful call with Xfinity tech support).  I seem to have found a workaround: the HP wireless laserjet has its own WiFi signal.  While it says it's connected to the XB7 Gateway, it won't print through that.  But, if on your laptop or smartphone you switch that devices Wifi from the XB7 wifi to the wifi of the printer, you can then send your print job to the printer and (at least for now) it seems to work.  Then you can switch your device back to the XB7 based Wifi.  A bit of a pain but better than having to buy a new printer...

Thanks - I actually jsut wired it via ethernet and let the XB7 handle the conection to the printer.  so if it is close enough to the XB7 or a pod, this seems to work.  At least at the printers new home.  🙂

Have the same kinds of issues, very intermittent and maddening, with our 2.4Ghz HP LaserJet MFP when we moved and switched to Xfinity as our ISP. "Advanced Security" setting appears to be the source of the problems. We're going to leave it turned on and connect via USB cable, trading off wireless printing for the greater security feature. But switching it off is also an option.
