XB7 and 160 MHz wifi setting
Please reopen the following topic :
The latest response from XfinityChelsea did not address the issue.
"As mentioned, in the event that the additional settings are grayed out, or the particular settings are unable to be selected that you are seeking to modify, it means that the settings are being managed automatically to provide the best performance possible and not something able to be changed."
This is false. The automatic settings do not provide the best performance possible. That is the reason why I posted.
The phone is capable of 160 MHz. The Wifi built-in to the XB7 is running at only 80 MHz. The 80 MHz is what's actually limiting the Wifi through between my phone and the XB7.
There needs to be a way of enabling 160 MHz.

How DARE you imply that Xfinity doesn't know best for you and your network! /s
In all seriousness this needs to be addressed on all routers. Xfinity can lie in its marketing and then throttle your "blazing fast" speeds from the 1gbs you pay for to 30 to 40mbs.

I'd look around in the settings and see if there's an option in there to disable mesh/Pod support. I don't have an XB7 (use my own equipment), but a little Googling suggests they've been turning 160Mhz channel width off to enable mesh mode to support Xfinity Pods by default.
Mesh inherently involves network nodes being within range of each other and transmitting at the same time, so the nodes need to use different channels to avoid interference. The XB7 may not support DFS either. Without DFS support there is only room for two 80Mhz wide channels or one 80+80 split 160Mhz wide channel. https://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-features/33210-160-mhz-wi-fi-channels-friend-or-foe A lot of WiFi gear doesn't since it makes the design more complicated and expensive and requires a separate FCC certification. DFS can also cause network issues since part of the requirement is the AP/router/etc. has to switch channels or shut off to avoid interfering with other uses of that frequency. The latter is probably the best reason for Comcast to not support DFS. It would cause way too many support calls and complaints.
Personally I'd turn off the WiFi on the XB7 and just use your Unifi stuff (add an AP if needed) so fast roaming works.

Yes, I'm using Wifi on my Unifi stuff right now, which does support 160 MHz, but it's not Wifi 6, which the XB7 is.
I want to turn on 160 MHz with Wifi 6, which the XB7 supports, except for the settings being inaccessible.

yeah, this is a uphill battle you're gonna deal with if you don't feel like shilling out for your own equipment - I wonder at what point xfinity will be fined for false advertising gig speeds with wifi, then locking it down (especially considering it seems like the software is written to just lock it down, regardless of interference)
the fix is requesting a new modem, going into 10.0.0.1 setting up wifi etc., then using the live chat to activate the modem NOT the ridiculously stupid app. this has worked on almost all of the xb7 replacements I've got and the device itself is capable of it.
Don't think there's a way to do it once the modem is activated with the stupid app, if anyone has any idea how i'd love to know lol

@madbrain76 At this point with you wanting unlimited data, you would be better off getting the Xfi complete package if it’s in your area, for a extra $25, $20 for the first year, the xb8 gateway rental is included, as is unlimited data, plus 200 Mbps upload speed for the 1200 Mbps speed tier as it’s being rolled out in certain areas, plus it’s wifi6e, tri band router, if you use the app to setup the Xb8 it should ask you if you want to transfer your settings over from your Xb7, if the 135 ips are actual ‘static’ ips they would be setup on the client side, reserved ips would be on the router side, plus the gateway has a nifty setting, under the lease time, it has a global, ‘forever’ selection…

@madbrain76 I believe we are talking about 2 different packages, with the Xb8 upload speeds will increase to 200 Mbps from 35 when it gets rolled out, plus if you take @user_ca2de7 suggestion, you will have access to the 160 setting….

So i had a chance to view a xb8 with full access to the admin panel, the wifi6e band the default bandwidth setting is 160, actually that is the only option, on the 5g band if you change the bandwidth to include the 160 band, its about as productive as urinating into the wind, sometimes you can set it, sometimes not, when you can it only lasts a few minutes, then the option grays out and i think it defaults to 20 or so because the download speed drops to under 300, then you have to play with the settings to get better, i am not really a windows guy, but i noticed on win 11 on my 10 year old computer, if i connect WiFi and Ethernet simultaneously the download speed jumps up, like some kind of bonding thing, even tho the negotiated link speed of each adapter is roughly 1000 Mbps, when i do a speed test it tops out approximately 1400 Mbps, this is with the default settings on the xb8... Its the same with Linux, maybe the xb8 is better then i thought with managed settings....
