XB6 (Techicolor) modem drops signal... EVERY FEW MINUTES. IS THERE A FIX FOR THIS?
A comcast tech "upgraded" my modem the the latest 1GB XB6 Technicolor CGM4140COM device. It drops connections every few minutes, but only on the 2.4 GHz network. Does anyone know of a fix for this? I've given up calling Comcast. All they do is restart the gateway. I do that 7 times a week trying to fix this. All of my drivers and software are at the latest available versions.
In the mean time, I found a less painful workaround instead of rebooting the modem, everytime this happens. This information is for Windows users only. I'm sure that similar commands are available on other systems.
Open a command prompt window. Run this command in the CMD window:
netsh interface show interface
That command will display the network adapters on your system. Look for the one that is for your WIFI adapter. (It won't have Ethernet in its name). Write down this name.
Create a .bat file. In the bat file place these two commands (substitute your wifi adapter name for the one shown below, put it in quotes):
netsh interface set interface name= "Wi-Fi" admin=disabled
netsh interface set interface name= "Wi-Fi" admin=enabled
Save the .bat file to your desktop. When your signal drops, go to your desktop, and right-click the .bat file name and select Run as administrator. The bat file will disable, then enable the WIFI adapter. The reset should detect the weak wifi signal again (for a while). Like I said, it's not an elegant solution, but it beats waiting 10 minutes for the modem to reboot.

Some tips for improving WiFi performance;

There are other options. Google for WiFi repeaters / range extenders, WiFi mesh systems / pods.

Thanks, but I've tried all these things. This problem only occurs when using the XB6 modem. The older style modems do not have this problem. I can be sitting in the same room as the router, and it will still periodically drop the 2.4 GHz connection. I can see the "antenna" icon in my task bar "dim" (the icon shrinks by one "wave") just before this happens. I'll probably have to just return this piece of junk and ask for an older, slower modem.
