Wrong Zip Code IP Address

Xfinity did an upgrade in my area yesterday, which means I didn't have Internet for about 5-6 hours yesterday. After the system came back up late in the evening I noticed that my Local Channels were not the ones that I usually get. After checking my IP address at whatismyaddress, my location changed to a city that is about 50 miles away from me. I have been on the phone with Xfinity support today and they did a software reset and and then they had me unplug my cable modem and replug it back in. This has not resolved my issue. Can someone tell me how this issue can be resolved without me restting my cable modem? I don't want to brick my modem.

Location based IP is always iffy. Comcast, and other ISP's, move IP addresses around as needed. You probably have a new IP address that is still allocated to another area. There are various IP Geolocation services that need to be informed of any changes.

Some notes on trying to get it updated here:

@andyross Thanks for taking the time to respond. I can't get in touch with a senior support person to confirm that the assigned IP address that I currently have is wrong or the databases need to be updated. Someone should be able to manually assign me a correct GEO-Location IP address and then could test thing out. I recognize that I can't keep this manually assigned IP address, but this should be the first thing that tech support should be trying.

Nope. Sorry. Reps can't access the Comcast DHCP servers. Follow @andyross's advice.
