wrong modem

Because a tech told me my own modem was broken  I bought a new one and now that is listed on my account also. The NEW one was defective. I reinstalled my old one and it works fine BUT I cannot ACTIVATE as xfinity goes to the NEW one How do I get my account update so I can activate? Thanks.
