WPS button flashing red
I have talked to multiple Xfinity employees and no one seems to know or understand why my modem is flashing red when I press the WPS button. I'm trying to connect a printer that doesn't use a password to connect to my network. They all told me that it must be the printer. It's not. We factory reset the modem. Tech support did everything they could and still hadn't heard about the red light, she had to look online. Finally traded out the modem in XB8 and have SAME problem with the second one. I see some comments on here with people having the same problem. Hit the button, flashes red twice and that's it.

the red flash indicates that WPS is not enabled. Login to the modem, go to Connection, WiFi, then "Add Protected Setup (WPS) Client. Enable the WPS setup. Pressing the WPS button will then go to blinking blue for several minutes.

Alternatively pretty much all printers offer some sort of work-around for WPS not being available. Actually most devices do. Business grade WiFi equipment generally does not support WPS. Walk up to an access point, push a button, and anyone can add a device to the network... giant security hole. Generally with printers you can download a configuration utility from the manufacturer and use it to set up the printer for WiFi. Most of the time they require plugging the printer into a computer with a USB cable, at least for home printers. You can unplug it after WiFi setup is complete. Higher end printers with ethernet ports can generally be configured over ethernet. The vast majority of devices have some other way of setting them up that doesn't require WPS. I run commercial/business class WiFi access points at home. They do not support WPS, but I have yet to encounter a device I couldn't connect to my WiFi. I can't use the easy button, but there's always another way.
