Wifi speed

Why is my wifi so slow to my desktops and laptops? My LAN speed is 280-300mbps, and wifi speed tests on the phones also match that. But desktops and laptops max out at 12Mbps. I know wifi is slower, but I would expect it to be higher than this. Zoom and microsoft team calls often drop or choke up because of the bandwidth. Is there a setting I am missing?
