Wifi security settings

I recently got a new modem from xfinity and now my xbox360 is unable to connect. One suggestion was to use an older security protocol but I am unable to change this as it is being managed automatically. Please help me get this fixed as I have a lot of money invested in DLC on this machine and would like to continue to use it.

Digging around I was able to find how to change the settings to no security but the xbox still would not connect, it was working fine up until I got the new modem and has not worked since then.

I can see the xbox connecting to the modem/router in the modems own admin page, but it does not show up in my xfi app and it is also not available to select for a port forward

Hey getting Jegy with it...

Try hardwire connecting the xbox to modem. Once confirmed that the xbox connects when hardwired connect something else like mobile device to the WIFI and see how that goes. If all goes well, go to available WIFI networks on the XBOX and forget the network the xbox was connecting to. Suspect the xbox is still trying to connect to the former modem and should be connecting to the new modem instead. Do you remember when first tried connecting XBOX to WIFI did the credentials go through ok? Or did you even try connecting to the new modem? The modem would be whatever you named it or may be the gateway model number...

 Hope this helps

 Thanks and good luck

I suspect that the modem is somehow remembering the old modems settings for the xbox, when i set this new modem up it asked me if i wanted to bring all my old settings over from the other modem and i said yes, but the ip address is completely out of line for what it should be, i've tried to manually assign the ip for the xbox but that does not seem to work either. I don't have a way to hardwire as the modem/router is on another floor at this point. The network shows up on the xbox, the xbox's mac address shows up on the router, but the ip addresses do not match up and the xbox does not show up in devices on my xfi app. i've tried to delete the network from the xbox, reset it to factory defaults, tried resetting the modem multiple times. I did notice that once i try to connect the first time, the mac address stays showing connected even if the xbox is turned off, i have to reset the modem to make it go away.

Hi, @JegieBeats. Were you able to get this sorted out? If not, have you completed all the steps outlined in this thread? @user_bb801b definitely has some great suggestions and steps to try if you haven't already.

Hey jegy, it sounds like you're almost there.. That's the good news.. The challenge is getting the Xbox to forget what it thinks its supposed to do.. Darn computers..

When you unplug the xbox, hold down the power button for ~ 30 sec to 1min and then restart and see if it connects. This time check the "no" box if asks to keep settings.. That may be what's behind the hang up..

Also, I would avoid trying to set up IP address manual since everything should be default automatically assigned and dynamic IP address.

Also as an alternative solution, if possible connect the xbox to a separate WIFI signal, and from there go to settings and return the xbox to default configuration.. That may help too, getting xbox back to default config.

 Just my .2 cents..

Thanks and good luck.

So still have not been able to connect, found someone on reddit with a similar problem who said they switched their 2.4 signal from g,n to b,g,n and it began working again. It seems I am unable to change these settings within my xfinity provided router.

Hey Jeggy with it..

Apologies for late reply, and I hope things have sorted themselves out by not. But just in case not, what happened when you tried ethernet cable connection directly from modem/gateway to Xbox?

Also have we tried connecting to another (friends) WIFI signal just to ensure all is well with the Xbox NIC card. Im sure it is but trying to isolate cause here. Also, I wouldn't mess with the WIFI standards. The letters have to do with data rate and there's good info on wikipedia if interested in that..

From what you've described thus far, the Xbox is not authenticating so we need to understand what errors pop up when trying to connect and investigate each one individually.

Hope this makes sense. Just my .2 cents.

Thanks and good luck.
