Wifi in detached garage

How can I get wifi to my detached shop? I currently have 2 things plugged into the Gateway modem via ethernet cable, my smart tv and xfinity cable box. This leaves the in home wifi open to cell phones, laptops, and a printer. Plugging the tv and cable box to the gateway by ethernet really helped with wifi speeds. Recently though I ran 150 foot cat 6 ethernet cable to my detached shop and plugged it into a wifi extender. It worked, but caused the in home wifi and our cable to act up. It made the wifi inconsistent in the house and the tv cable wasn't working well. What could cause this and how do I get wifi in my shop without other issues coming up? Could it be a damaged cable? Or not enough bandwidth?

I'd also like a way to have wifi in my detached garage. I've never run a cable line down there (70 feet), but we can't even send or receive calls, texts, or browse the internet from inside the building. We need to step outside one of the doors to do that.

@Lkpolo another way to get cable to your detached garage is if the garage had its own legal address as a building on your property. If it does than it would be able to have its own separate account with its own services.

Sorry, not but the garage is at the corner of the driveway and on the original 1 acre parcel that our home was built on. Another account would be an added cost which is already higher than we want.

Can I just plug an ethernet cable into the back of the gateway, run it 200 feet to my shop and plug the other end of the ethernet cable into an xfinity pod? Will that provide my shop with reliable wifi/internet access? Without causing issues to the wifi or connected devices in the house?

Hi there, @Wall-E1980. Thank you so much for reaching out to us via our Forums page. In order to get a better connection for your shop, we would recommend getting a small business internet account for your shop.

It says in the FAQ that I can hardwire my pod to the gateway via ethernet and it would help with the connection...

"Hardwiring your xFi Gateway to a Pod gives you faster speeds and the connection is not impacted by distance or WiFi interference.

Connecting your Pod to your xFi Gateway using an Ethernet cable is especially helpful when:

The home is very large or has construction that may block WiFi signals (concrete or stone interior walls, metal or metal mesh in or on the interior walls)."
