WiFi disconnects every 30 minutes and only works again after restarting

Hello All,

Yesterday we had a power outage at 9 am. The power was restored 90 minutes later but since the power outage we can not get our internet to work more than 30 minutes at a time without resetting. 

We have an Xfinity store very close by so we exchanged our modem for a different one. However we are having the same problem. 

I have kept a running record so I am sure that the internet is lasting exactly 30 minutes, then it goes down and all connections are lost. We restart it and it works for 30 minutes rinse, repeat etc. 


We have spent hours on the phone with different techs and none of them have an answer so they setup an appointment but it’s for 5 !!!! days from now. How we are supposed to work from home with no internet like this I really don’t know. 

I’m convinced at this point the problem must lie outside of our equipment and with some connection on the street or within our building since this happened only after a power outage but any ideas of things to try would be appreciated. Thanks.

@Angel9894 Hello and thank you for taking the time to reach out to us this evening. I am sorry to hear you have been experiencing issues with the connection. Since the issue started after a power interruption, one question I have for you is how you are plugging the modem in. Are you using a power strip or are you plugged directly into the wall? If you are using a power strip I'd recommend plugging it into the wall. If you are plugged into a wall outlet already, and if it is possible, I'd test another power outlet.

All xFi \ Comcast routers have shared network.  So you can use your own account from a neighbor.. its capped at like 50 Mbps or something but it's better than going up and down all the time..

Just look for XFINITY WiFi SSID (all upper case) and purposely turns yours off first to make sure you are connecting to a neighbor..

NO you are not actually sharing your neighbor bandwidth it's reserved for guests.. and if you login with your own account you are not giving your neighbor your info. but at least for 4 or 5 days you can use internet and also ensure the problem is not with the service itself.
