Hi there, @user_40b6bb Thank you so much for taking the time to speak with us here. I'm truly sorry for the inconvenience you are going through with trying to separate your networks. At this time with the Xb8, we are not able to separate the networks, there is no work around that we can advise you on how to do that.

@XfinityRichard I have the networks separated,I can see my 2.4 and 5.0 and all devices connected to those two.Problem is with the mysterious 6.0 ,that I don’t see if I don’t separate either ! and even more when not separated it was putting mostly everything on the 2.4,appears to direct traffic by the number of devices.lastly not sure why there are directions how to separate signals if not possible .If  Xfinity could communicate with the actual manufacturer would possibly provide more info.

I definitely want to make sure you can take advantage of all the amazing features in your new gateway, @user_40b6bb! Do you now if your drivers are up to date? You can find more information here

I read on here, can’t verify it, if you try to use wpa3, it won’t connect, I don’t know your settings, I just thought I would mention it…

@user_40b6bb I read on some other forums that the setting might actually be wpa3/wpa2, maybe for backward compatibility? Since you can’t change the setting on the xb8, I would change it on the device you are trying to connect, just a thought

Hi.  I do have my networks separated also, but I can see my wifi 6.  I just can't get it connected.  I only want it connected to one device.  The other devices like my tablet and cellphone were already connected to wifi 5, but if they weren't you need to do it on the device itself.  Also, mine is connected to the wpa3 personal.

@user_40b6bb  What type of device is it exactly?  Just curious, I am picking up a Xb8 with the Xfi complete package in a few hours, the speeds are supposed to be 1200/200 Mbps, we will see…

There is wifi6 and wifi6e, two different things, unless your devices are specifically wifi6e they won’t connect to the third 6 band, but the WiFi 5g is WiFi 6 also, just not wifi6e, that being said, on my new xb8 I exceed my plans advertised speeds on 5g band using wifi6 on it, so wifi6e wouldn’t give me faster speeds, maybe diminished speeds because I read wifi6e doesn’t penetrate walls and floors as well as the 5g band, plus it drops off faster then 5g band, so I don’t know…

@Jlavaseurplease explain more …wifi 5g ? Are you referring cellular networks? And not sure what u mean 5 and 6 are the same complete diff frequency’s which the 6 is bidirectional like i said I can’t  connect a single device to the 6 or 6e i have devices capable of both can’t even see the 6.0 xfinity says can’t separate signals …i am able ….conclusion its not there !!!

@user_40b6bb  There are a lot of different 802.11x WiFi specifications.  To connect your WiFi devices to any specific version, they need to speak the same standard.  This is going to depend on the radio in your hardware.  802.11 b/g/n devices are pretty common still.  They won't speak to an 802.11ac/ax radio as an example.  802.11b won't speak to an 802.11n(only) radio (usually true, although there is a 'legacy' mode that may or may not be present -- confusing right?).

To complicate things, some devices can broadcast and receive multiple standards at the same time.  Others cannot.   It's a consideration when you are buying WiFi devices, especially these days with multiple standards available on the consumer market right now.

You can see more about it here: https://www.cbtnuggets.com/blog/technology/networking/when-to-use-802-11-a-b-g-b-nc-wifi-standards

What's the rule of thumb?  If they can't publish an actual manual and specifications for it, don't buy it.  If it's true that they removed the radio mode options on the X8, or cost reduced the radios on them, then that's the way it goes.  There's other gear on the market and you don't have to use their stuff.

  • @user_40b6bb  To be able to see and connect to the 6.0 as you call it, the device Must be wifi6e capable, not just wifi6, if you can’t connect it’s probably a problem with your device and not the Xb8 gateway, so being inquisitive I got myself a Wifi6e network card for my 10 year old desktop, so I read you need the appropriate intel drivers and not the Microsoft plug and play drivers, so I updated the drivers, I also read that not all versions of windows can utilize the wifi6e protocol, so I just upgraded to win 11 pro, free upgrade from Microsoft, even tho it’s a 10 year old computer, you can still do it even tho it give’s compatibility errors, it’s just a little more difficult to do, that being said i can connect to the 6.0 band flawlessly, it’s the only device I have that is wifi6e capable, of course my other devices aren’t so they can’t even see the 6.0 band…

@user_40b6bb  I looked up the iPad you mentioned, it’s wifi6 capable not wifi6e, so obviously it won’t see or connect to the 6g band, but it will connect to the ax band on the 5g band as wifi6, so it’s your device and nothing to do with Xb8, nothing tech support can do to remedy that…

@Jlavaseur it’s the latest 6 gen sorry thought it was a 5 th gen should be compatible ,iPhone 11 and a 13 pro should get on the 6.0 not 6e l like stated can only see and connect to 2.4 and 5.0

@user_40b6bb  So I looked up the specs for the 6th generation,

  • All models
    Wi‑Fi 6E (802.11ax) with 2x2 MIMO; speeds up to 2.4 Gbps4
    Simultaneous dual band
    Bluetooth 5.3
  • Wi-Fi + Cellular models
5G (sub‑6 GHz and mmWave) with 4x4 MIMO
  • Gigabit LTE with 4x4 MIMO and LAA

So while it states it’s wifi6e, but it’s only dual band, plus it’s 5g, sub 6 GHz, so once again it won’t see or connect to the Xb8 third 6 GHZ band, it’s not the Xb8 or Comcast,

So the ax band on the 5 GHZ is WiFi 6, my IPhone 12 max pro, connects on the 5 GHZ as Wifi6, it don’t specifically say that, but it does, speed tests indicate that, I did speed tests on the 5g ax band and the 6g ax band, they are very comparable, in the real world if downloading, let’s say Win 11 iso from Microsoft, if you monitor the actual download speed, it’s only a fraction of what the Xb8 is capable of...
