Wi Fi Broadcast

I turn my Wi-Fi broadcast Off via the Mobile App or sometimes the Admin Panel. I don't like to broadcast it for obvious reasons.

What Infinity department can I report that my Wi-Fi broadcast gets turned on again and not by me.

I am wondering is it a hacker or a rouge employee in my apartment building. Who do I contact to resolve this problem.

FWIW. If you have a good WiFi password / security key, it doesn't matter if your SSID / network name is being broadcasted. Turning it off is false security. Google it and you'll see that. A determined cracker can find your broadcast anyway.

My concern is not Wi-Fi if someone on my Router turns on the Wi-Fi broadcast. My concern is whether they are on my Router making the changes or using a Remote Desktop app to access the admin panel from my computer. Either scenario suggests that someone has access because of their employment with Xfinity, or they are a hacker with extensive knowledge and should be caught.

user_0j633a Hello and thank you for reaching out via our Xfinity Community Forums. EG is correct that your Wi-Fi Password /security key is the key to protect your network.

If your Wi-Fi broadcast is turning on and off unexpectedly:

  • Check for Router Firmware Updates: Ensure your router’s firmware is up to date to rule out any bugs or vulnerabilities.
  • Review Router Logs: The router’s admin panel might have a log feature that tracks changes or access attempts.
  • Examine Network Configuration: Look for any automated settings or conflicts that might be causing the Wi-Fi to toggle.
  • Change Admin Credentials: Ensure your router’s admin password is strong and hasn’t been compromised.

Here is more information about how to manage the Xfinity Wi-Fi Hotspot available on a residential Xfinity Gateway.

Thanks for the information. I did check my local router logs and see entries. I do not have enough information to

decipher if the change is coming from the local router, online Xfinity website, or a cellphone app.

On point number one that you were given, if you are using a Comcast rented gateway device, you can't upgrade the firmware load. Only Comcast can remotely from their end. They are responsible for keeping it up to date.
