Steve, I wanted to report my XB7 has the issue on all 4 ports (you had suspected in a previous post.)
After reading about using a switch as a solution, I dug out a cheap dumb one I had to test. NETGEAR 5-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch GS205v2 is the one I have and is $15 on Amazon.
Works flawlessly. Issue... I wouldn't say resolved... but avoided? I don't have a delay on adapter reset or PC restart anymore. I'm happy as a clam to be free of this annoyance!
@BlackTriad -- Thanks for posting your hardware and firmware info. I've added it to the spreadsheet I've been maintaining in an effort to assist Comcast in fixing this problem. You have the same firmware as a bunch of us (including me) who have this problem. At this point I think it's very clear that this firmware version is related to the problem. Alas, it appears that Comcast is not yet convinced even though I've conveyed all this information to them. I have no idea why.
You reported that today they sent a tech to your house who replaced all the wiring and replaced the gateway but the problem is still there. What a waste of everyone's time and Comcast's money. I'm guessing that the new XB6 that was installed has the same firmware version as the one it replaced.
@badcrab -- Thanks for reporting your favorable experience with the Netgear switch and thanks for posting the model #. We also have the post from ScottinCO (recently re-posted by Greg--thanks!) reporting on another specific switch that he used to successfully work around this problem. I think we have good evidence that this is a pragmatic approach to consider.
For me, the $15 cost of the switch vs. the ongoing annoyance of this problem and the cumulative time spent on this is a pretty simple calculation--time to buy a switch. I'll buy mine now before the Comcast customer base consumes all the inventory 🙂
I have high confidence the switch will work but I'll post my results here no matter what. Even if it does work I intend to stay around for a good period of time (but not forever) to do what I can to get Comcast to actually fix the problem, although my intensity level is likely to decrease so that I have more time for other activities. We have people finding this thread and reporting this problem every day. It's clear that it's a widespread problem. I do believe that eventually it will get fixed. Meanwhile, if the switch works for me, that will remove a real annoyance every day.
A huge "thanks" for everything you've done on our behalf. Your professionalism and willingness to help us all during this debacle is very much appreciated!
Just checking in, still no resolution for me. As I said in my original post, the last time I waited 30+ sceonds or so for an internet connection, there were dial up/ fax sounds. Ridiculous. Whats' next, reinstalling rabbit ears with tin foil on our TVs?
Very frustrating, particularily with so many of us working from home these days. High speed computers, high speed internet and yet, we twiddle our thumbs waiting for out little "globes" to turn into "connected" icons.
Thanks to those of you actively working this issue.
Hello again @fiero44 . I don't have an entry for you in my spreadsheet--could you post the firmware version in your XB6? Also, as best you can recall, when did this problem start for you?
Greg-- Thanks for your kind words, and thanks for all the effort you've expended as well. I think all of us have learned a lot about this issue but unfortunately much of that is in the category of what does not work.
It does appear, though, that using a switch can be a work-around. I ordered one last night and it will arrive tomorrow. I'll post results as soon as I have them.
Meanwhile, if new people with this problem find this thread: Please post the firmware version that's in your gateway and also post any additional information regarding your experience with this issue that you think might be helpful in better understanding this problem.
Thanks for all the excellent work you and others have performed trying to resolve this issue. I had posted on the original thread that was locked and wondered why I hadnt received any further updates .. Snooping around I found this thread that brought me up to date .. Still having lag problem and have the XB6 ...
I have the same issue. 30 second delay when I boot up my $2000 pc. I have gigabit service and using a brand new Modem/Router model CGM4331COM (xb7-t). Software version CGM4331COM_4.6p2s1_PROD_sey.
My report on the unmanaged switch workaround: It works! What a relief.
I purchased the TP-Link TL-SG105 from Amazon ($16). It took about two minutes to set it up: disconnect the ethernet cables from the gateway and connect them to the switch; connect a new ethernet cable between the switch and the gateway; plug the switch into an AC outlet. There is no configuration work to do and there aren't any settings. Once it's plugged in and the cables are connected you're all set.
I've tested this on both of our PC's, waking them from sleep and from cold starts. The internet connection is instantly available, just as it should be and used to be, before mid-December.
Note: If you decide to do this and you purchase this particular model, be sure you have a spare ethernet cable available (if not, purchase one when you purchase the switch)--this unit does not ship with a cable and you will need one to run between the switch and the gateway. (I do not know if other switches ship with an ethernet cable.)
This unit has a small 4"x4" footprint and is completely silent (no fan). It is cool to the touch so it appears to put out no heat of significance.
If I do encounter any problems with the switch I'll report them here.
I have every reason to believe that other unmanaged switches will also work to mask the problem we've been discussing here. For example, I think that someone else reported success with the Netgear GS205 switch.
Of course this doesn't really solve the problem, it just hides it. As long as you use the switch the problem won't affect you but it's still there and Comcast should fix it. As I said the other day, I intend to stay active here and do what I can to get this fixed by Comcast. So far it's been a frustrating process because Comcast seems to be focused on fiddling with house wiring or replacing gateway units, but that won't solve the problem if the new gateway has the same firmware as the old one. And it's clear that house wiring has nothing whatsover to do with this problem. This is a Comcast problem, it's not a problem with any particular person's installation.
New people who have encountered this problem are joining this thread every day. I'm sure there are many more people affected by this but they haven't found this forum yet so we haven't heard from them. I believe that eventually the number of problem reports about this will catch the attention of someone at Comcast who realizes that there is a real problem here (almost certainly firmware-related) that needs to be fixed. I don't know when it will happen but I believe that at some point the dam will break and the right people will start to pay attention to this issue.
Meanwhile, if this problem is really annoying to you and especially if it affects work-related productivity, you could consider the switch workaround.
I suggest (somewhat laughingly, but not really) that if anyone goes this route to resolve the problem, ask for a $15 refund on your bill. If they don't want to fix it, they should pay YOU to eliminate the problem that they induced.
I have the NETGEAR ProSafe 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Desktop Switch (GS108-411NAS) and it’s been working flawlessly over the past few days. I paid $40 at Walmart. But $15 sounds way better!
The Xfinity band that anyone with comcast service can use can no longer be shut off with the new modem/router combos they provide. Some techs have revealed that throttling is still a thing and is now done at the isp provided gateway to get around new laws preventing throttling. Firmware updates are automatic and are not user configurable and they can't be rolled back to prevent this going on two month problem.
I am going to get around all these Comcast created problems and purchase my own Router/Modem Combo.

Thanks @fiero44 . That's the same firmware the rest of us have (on the XB6) and the same timeframe for when the problem started.

Hello @Kruunk83 . Sorry you have this problem, but since you do we're glad you found this thread.
Is this a new Comcast installation or are you seeing this problem now after an older gateway was replaced with this new XB7?
Your firmware is the same as everyone else in this group who has an XB7 that exhibits this problem.

I will post any problems with setup and operation I find in here.
