There are two truths with internet usage.  Every time, and with every device you connect to the internet, you are doing something different than the last time you did.

The other one is if you use Xfinity equipment, you can't see what any of them are doing.

Hello @user_219d20, and thanks for reaching out with your data concern. I would be happy to assist you in any way I can to find out what's going on.

Can you send us a private message with your full name, name of account holder (if different), and service address?

To send a "Direct Message" to Xfinity Support:

Click "Sign In" if necessary

Click the "Direct Messaging" icon (speech bubble)

Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there

- As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list

- An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line

Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window

Press Enter to send it

It is possible that even though you are doing nothing different, a website you visit or streaming service you use may be doing something different.  If a streaming site or website has suddenly switched their default video to HD (720p or higher) your usage will go up fast and you will exceed the cap limit by a lot.

@Vando22 There's a lot more to it as well.  Every site you contact is loaded with javascript and trackers, plus ad content that constantly rotates.  This page alone as 13 scripts running, but I'm blocking a few.  There could be several more that would spawn if I didn't.  It's not uncommon to have over 50 on a site, plus video auto-loading in the background, any of which can be malicious or cross-scripted.  Leave a browser open, they can run 24/7.

Software you use, and windows is horrible for this, all run home looking for updates that may get wrapped around the axle in a continuous download.  Phones do that too.  Backup programs flake out.  So do "virus updates", and "os updates".

Streaming content is a massive data pig now, with quite a bit of 4K content.  Cable boxes will pull whatever they can for bandwidth, plus, you got a security problem if you are using one that connects via coax without a PoE (point of entry) filter installed.

So, it's true.  Every time you connect something, you are doing something different than the last time.  The second truth also applies.  There is no way to see data use by device with Xfinity equipment.  You can with other gear. Even throttle data use by device if you are trying to beat a data cap.
