why does xfinity have my router password?
I tried to change my password using my computer and was directed to use the Admin tool. The Admin tool only has an unsecured HTTP connection. How in the world is this secure with regards to changing a password? In addition, when using the Xfinity app on my mobile phone, Xfinity sent my router name and password in the clear. Why does Xfinity need my password and why is the company so cavalier about sending passwords in the clear?

FWIW. The admin tool doesn't need HTTPS because the router settings are done through your LAN / home network connection. The bits never traverse the open internet. The router's IP address is a private one (10.x.x.x or 192.x.x.x). Those addys are non-internet routable.
As for the app, I can not speak authoritatively about its methods / functions as I am not a CC employee. I don't have the app and I have no knowledge of it.

Thanks for reaching out, the Xfinity app displays your WiFi network name (SSID) and password because it's a feature that allows you to easily access and manage your home network settings. This includes the ability to share your network name and password with guests or to update them. The app also provides options to hide your WiFi network from broadcasting, as well as advanced settings like WiFi Intelligence., the information is secure inside the Xfinty App, unless you are providing that information to others
