Why does Xfinity block port forwarding to raspberry pi devices with their modem/routers

I'm trying to use the Xfinity app to setup multiple port forwards to multiple raspberry pi devices and get the following error, "We're Having Some Trouble Please try again. If the problem persists, check back later." I have tried using different port numbers and get the same error. I can setup port forwards with the same port numbers on any non raspberry pi devices on my network it works. Why would Xfinity block port forwarding to a raspberry pi device?

Good evening @user_43f8ec I hope you are doing well and having a great night. I am sad to read you are experiencing trouble with setting up port forwarding on your device. If you have not already, I would suggest following the steps in this helpful link; https://comca.st/3LKw07H. Please let us know if this helped or what questions you have.

The steps outlined in the link you posted is exactly how I was trying to setup port forwarding. Since I have a xFi Gateway the only way to setup a port toward is through the Xfinity app. I just tried again and I’m getting the same error.

I have also  tried using the router in bridge mode to use my own router and setup port forwarding, unfortunately the xFi Gateway will eventually no longer assign my router an IP address through DHCP.

Before this I had great service with my own modem and router, pretty sad  that  I only experience problems with equipment provided by Xfinity.

@user_43f8ec Sorry to hear you have only seemed to have issues when leasing a modem. May I ask why you switched from a purchased modem to a leased modem?

I no longer work for Comcast.

I signed up for a two year contract with unlimited data which requires I use a leased modem.

Got it, that makes total sense. Have you checked the https://comca.st/3DXcNxY site as of yet? There are some tips and strategies posted there for those port forwarding issues.

My apologies to Xfinity for the title of this post, this isn’t a raspberry pi issue. Turns out the device having a reserved ip was the issue. After removing the reserved ip, I was able to setup a port ward. Once the port forward was setup, I applied the reserved ip and now everything works.
