Why did Xfinity give me a WiFi5 gateway?
Xfinity released their WiFi6E “gateways” in the beginning of 2022. I switched my internet plan earlier this year from 400Mbps to 900Mbps and they gave me a new gateway but its only WiFi5. They should be giving out WiFi6E gateways standard. Xfinity/comcast on wifi has always [Edited: Language]. It makes no sense to give out WiFi5 gateways and keep that reputation.

The only modem/router that Xfinity uses that has wifi 6e is the xb8. They only really give those to customers with the high gig plans like the 2 gig plan which is mandatory and they’ve started giving it to the 1. Etc gig customers as well.
if you have the 900 plan I’d assume you’d at least be on a xb7 which does have Wi-Fi 6.
The reason you likely didn’t get a xb8 is your plan and the limited supply of xb8’s.

Hello @todo1997
Thank you so much for the feedback! You can easily stop down to swap that device for one that is Wi-Fi 6 capable. Traditionally as a company we offer a wide range of speed options/equipment as it relates to our customer needs.
Since Wi-Fi 6 is a new technology, not all of our valued customers are equipped with devices that are able to take advantage or even access Wi-Fi 6 depending on the age of the devices in the home. We aim to provide support for everyone, for that we need to offer multiple devices for wireless broadcast of internet based on the users needs.
