Why arent both of my ethernet ports working on my gateway?

I have the gateway with 2 ethernet ports and 2 phone ports (Black if that matters). I connected my main desk top computer and it works perfect. I just got another desktop for my daughter and plug it in, not working.

I have my computer plugged into port 1 and the green light is on at the port.

My daughters computer is plugged into port 2 and the orange light is on.

To add to this, I switched the cables and the green light followed my computer to port 2 and the orange was still on my daughters at port 1.

Her computer is configured correctly as far as I can tell driver wise, it shows that it is connected to the internet. Drivers up to date. When you do a google search it will bring up the search list, when you click on one to open it you get the not connected to the internet display. So it will search, but wont actually connect to any pages.

Does xfinity have it like some of the modems (My buckeye cable for instance) where you can only use one of the ports? How can I have only partial internet??

Welcome to our community forum, @user_435981! I definitely want to make sure you're able to use both ethernet ports on your modem. Have you tried a different ethernet cable for your daughter's computer to see if that helps?

@XfinityEmilyB I switched cables last night to a new one still in the package with no change.

O/k that is indeed a combo modem / router gateway device rather than a plain vanilla cable modem, so both ethernet ports should indeed be functional.

Please follow up with the Comcast employee that replied to you earlier. They may not be on duty presently so try sending a direct message to Xfinity support and you will be connected to the next available rep. They can review your topic here.

To send a "direct message" / "private message" message to Xfinity Support:
 • Click "Sign In" if necessary
 • Click the "Direct Message" icon or https://forums.xfinity.com/direct-messaging
 • Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon
 • The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there
 •  - As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list
 •  - An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line
 • Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window
 • Press Enter to send it

Good luck !
