Where can I get a report of my daily internet use for the household?

As we head towards the 1.2 TB Internet Data Plan change, I would like to find out what my daily internet use is according to Xfinity/Comcast.  Important factors for this question:

  • I do NOT want to know how to look on an individual computer or connected device to find how much it has used over a time period.
  • I DO want to be able to look at daily use history.
  • I do NOT want to watch the aggregate monthly report and record the change from day to day.
  • I do NOT want instructions on setting up individual users and assigning them to devices.  Out connectivity scheme here uses the Xfinity modem/router strictly as a modem.  It is connected to the WAN port on an Airport Extreme which manages WiFi/Ethernet routing and DHCP.

This data has to be available somewhere.  We know Comcast/Xfinity tracks many things.  Average, low, and peak use on a daily basis represent basic marketing data that is useful.  Some of us consumers find is useful as well.

Thanks for any assistance anyone can provide.

tldr: With those requirements, you simply won't be able to as far as I know.

Windows 10 provides data usage for the PC built-in (there's a margin for error). Win Key >Settings > Network > Data Usage. Phones and tablets should be able to do the same nowadays.

After some light googling, depending on your version of AirPort Extreme you could monitor data usage or at least network traffic. It seems like current versions of AirPort Extreme (or possibly the OS itself) is not compatible with this functionality. I don't have an affinity for Apple products so the extent of my knowledge ends there.

Your best idea would be to purchase a decent router with this function or track data usage with programs like Glasswire on an individual device basis. I doubt Comcast has detailed information available (if they did, you could ask. Doubt they'll tell you anything different unless your home is considered a small business?) as they can do what they want as a business (read: almost monopoly) and tack on fraudlent data usage analytics despite rumors of their data tracking accuracy being implemented by a third-party.

I don’t think that kind of data is available from Comcast, but it probably wouldn't be super hard to write a script that scrapes Comcast's webpage each day and computes "today's" value by subtracting yesterday's total.  (I put "today" in quotes because of the whole "24 hour limitation" of Comcast's meter.)

It would be nice if you could click on a "details" link on the Comcast page to just see it without that extra work, but I have seen no such feature.
