When do routers get replaced with more modern ones

I have an older xb7 router which is probably 8 years old.  I am having issues with poor signal and I’m wondering when these things get replaced with newer technology

If there is a signal / line / connection quality impairment somewhere, a new modem won't fix it. What do the modem's signal status values look like ? Try getting them here:  http://10.0.0.1

Please copy all of the text in its entirety of the *Downstream Power Levels*, the *SNR's* (Signal to Noise Ratios), and the *Upstream Power Level* numbers and paste them into your next post.

Is this with a WiFi connection ?

Hello @user_j7x9ls thank you for taking the time to reach out on our community forum. You certainly have the option of upgrading your equipment by going to any Xfinity store and swapping it out or you can request that it be mailed to you if you would prefer that. Are you having trouble with slower internet speeds? Or is the internet dropping?

@user_j7x9ls

Did you have a chance to gather that requested info ?

Getting back to this after several attempts over several months between work travel

the Spectrum analyzer says scanning… but provides no data and just seems to be in an endless loop. even after 20 minutes it’s still “scanning”

going to diagnostic tools - this is no better regardless of whether you choose today’s logs, yesterdays logs or any logs for that matter it  gives you no logs to print or look at

firewall logs work but the other log selections don’t give you any selection after ending its process

Xfinity is no help other than telling me it must be my fault on my end and want to charge me 100 dollars to have someone come and take a look.

I’ve moved to a

mobile hotspot for work and no longer use the internet it’s so bad with random drops

@EG

I guess I’ve tried to post a response to this for months but it’s to no avail as my posts never seem to stick.  Yes it’s WiFi and I tried using the analyzer and it says scanning but never gets out of an endless loop to give you anything even after 20 minutes.

Asking for diagnostic logs is also fruitless - it’s says it’s gathering the info but once complete never gives you anything to print.  The firewall logs yeah that log selector works but the other log selections give you nothing.

That sounds like something within the unit that xfinity don’t want you to see so that they can claim you have the best speed ever

i am set up next to the modem and I still have random drops so much so that I use cellular hotspot now for work

when I reach out to xfinity they always imply it’s me and the last interaction was a request for 100 dollar service call to come and check

@user_j7x9ls, If you are still having connection problems for several months, we need to take a deeper dive. I will need to pull up your account to investigate this further. If you could send our team a direct message with your full name, the name listed on the account (if different), and the service address associated with your account, I'd be more than happy to look into this for you. To send a Direct Message, please click on the chat icon in the top-right corner of the screen, next to the bell icon, and then type or select "Xfinity Support" to initiate a direct message.

hello.   I did what you instructed me to do and they are mailing me a new router as they found error codes when I guess they scanned the system. I’ll report back once I have the new unit up and running.   Wish me luck. Thanks
