What does it take to get 1.2 Gb download speed over Ethernet?
I received the downstream upgrade from 1 gig to 1.2 gig a few months back. My d/l speed to my Xfinity Gateway (CGM4331COM) is around 1,300-1,400 mb/s. However to my devices using the 2.5Gb port or even the 1 Gb ports according to the device speedtest is around 940mb/s. Is this because my Ethernet adapter is only 1 Gb? If I had a 10Gb adapter would I see device speeds over Ethernet of 1.2 Gb?

Yes, and yes. Also, use at the least a cat6 ethernet cable.

I'm now getting 1400 D/L with my 10Gb NIC card. SWEET! There is one very minor issue that perhaps others have. When Windows 11 starts up I get the following Warning in my event log:
Marvell AQtion 10Gbit Network Adapter : Network link is lost.
About 5 seconds later I get an Informational message:
Marvell AQtion 10Gbit Network Adapter : Network link has been established at 2.5Gbit/s Full Duplex.
This only happens when I start Windows, cold boot or warm boot. Never gets lost once it is connected. I do occasionally see warning messages about other stuff at the same time that needs a network connection like the Time Update or even sometimes Windows Update. These things must be happening when the connection is lost but never pose a problem as they get retried and it happens only once in a blue moon. Perhaps this is normal for my NIC. Perhaps the result of an initialization process. I never got this Warning message with my onboard Intel 1Gb NIC.
I'm not really concerned about the Warning just curious about what is causing the message. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Search the web, "informational type" event in windows event viewer....
bottom line 2.5GBps aint to shabby, and with no other issues, all is well.
Just my .2 cents.
Thanks and good luck.

For my past experience, I found a few critical things in order to achieve 1.2 GB or even 1.4 Gbps download speed to your computer, not just to your gateway, when you subscribe the 1.2 Gbps plan from Xfinity. The Xfinity technician came down to my place and checked cables and the signal strength, the fastest speed from his terminal is around 940 Mbps, same as mine. He told me he never sees a single case with achievement over 1 Gbps even with the latest Netgear Nighthawk cable modem in great Baltimore area. But finally, I got over 1.2 Gbps speed both to my gateway and my computer.
1. Modem/Router. I bought ARRIS Surfboard S33 DOCSIS 3.1 Multi-Gigabit Cable Modem with 2.5 Gbps Ethernet Port and a separate router ARRIS Surfboard mAX AX6600 Tri-Band Wi-Fi 6 Mesh Router (W21) I couldn't get over 1 Gbps, even with 10 GB Ethernet card. The problem is that the 2.5 Gbps port will be used for connecting to the router. If you have a 2.5 Gb port router, it will be used to connect to the modem so ends up you won't have another 2.5 Gbps port to your switch or computer. I searched and saw other users mentioned S33 could not provide over 1 Gbps speed. Plus, the S33 is not friendly to routers from other brand, I had a hard time even connecting Arris router to Arris modem.
2. Then I bought NETGEAR Nighthawk Cable Modem with Built-in WiFi 6 Router (CAX80) ($421), modem with router built-in as it said. Furthermore, I bought 10Gb PCI-E Network Card NIC Compatible for Intel X540-T2, Dual RJ45 Copper Port ($149) and made test, the gateway speed reached to 1.4 Gbps, but the speed to my computer was still under 940 Mbps. Btw, I also bought the following 10 Gbps switch, NETGEAR 10-Port Gigabit/10G Ethernet Unmanaged Switch (GS110MX) - with 8 x 1G, 2 x 10G/Multi-gig ($160) because the direct connection from my router 2.5 Gbps port to my computer did not show over 1 Gbps speed.
3. The download folder in my browser was set to other HDDs instead of C drive which is SSD. So, I changed the setting for download folder in my browser to C drive, I could get to near 1.4 Gbps to my computer as well. And I made test in the real world, the download speed is still added up to 150 mb/s (from several servers), equivalent to 1400 Mbps speed.
It's totally over $700 for the upgrade equipment and more than 10 hours of installation of equipment and testing. It's well worth it. It also proves that Comcast does provide 1.2 Gbps internet connection speed (downloading). The uploading is still very mean, at 40 mbps, which is [Edited: "Language"]. I've heard people in some areas of Japan were enjoying 10 Gbps both download and uploading, which I am envying very much. Hope the above information can help others in the same situation as mine can get shortcut and avoid errors I made.
