What does 'Associate Ethernet Port 2 to Xfinity HOME Network' really do?

Hello,

I have a Xfinity XB7 gateway (Arris Model:TG4482A ) setup and running at my home. I would like to know what does it do when I enable or set the option for associating Ethernet Port 2 to the Xfinity Home Network actually do? Gateway > Hardware > LAN Ethernet.  I have been trying to Google search or even search within this forum and I don't seem to get a good explanation or description of what this actually do?  If someone here can explain to me, that would greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

I assume it's something to do with the the Comcast security system you can add, for extra $$$ of course.

Ahh ... that could be it.  Yeah, Xfinity does off a security line of product for homes.  Thanks for the reply @andyross

Maybe, maybe not, Any LAN port would work. Nothing specific needs to be associated. AAMOF. Their security systems are typically associcated via WiFi / wirelessly.

I have the same question as the OP, especially since my ethernet appears to be down.

The 'Associate Ethernet Port 2 to XFINITY Home Network' checkbox is used when you are attaching a bridge to your modem. There is no other use for this setting.
