What do you suggest as the best replacement for my old Netgear modem router?

Netgear will no longer provide firmware updates for my Netgear AC1900 WiFi Cable Modem Router for Xfinity Internet & Voice (CV100V) after 7/31/25.

I prefer to buy my own modem/router/voice equipment.   Netgear suggests I buy TWO pieces of equipment as replacements for my current one: Nighthawk Multi-Gig 2.5Gbps Cable Modem for Xfinity Voice AND Nighthawk WiFi 7 Router RS300.

The Comcast/Xfinity website doesn't even list the two Nighthawk items on their list of compatible equipment, so I'm looking for another suggestion from Xfinity customers.

Under "other modems" on Xfinity's list, it looks like Motorola MT7711 works with all three of my Xfinity services, but I think the MT7711 may be just as old as my Netgear equipment.

Any ideas?  Thank you.

The concern is not "Home Security Devices And Equipment" help related........... Topic moved here to the proper help section for assistance.

Thank you for moving it.  I guess I didn't realize Home Network meant Security Netork.

The Netgear 2050V cable modem is indeed listed as compatible. See this;

https://www.xfinity.com/support/internet/customerowned

Scroll down to "Compatible modems for enhanced speeds" / Netgear.

They don't certify standalone routers. That's why the Nighthawk WiFi 7 Router RS300 is not listed. You can use any retail-purchased standalone router that you wish.

Hi, EG,

Right now, I subscribe from Comcast what used to be called "triple play," i.e., TV, phone, and internet.

Am I understanding this right that the Netgear CM2050V (cable modem) is for my phone and TV?  Then the router will enable me to have a LAN so that my computers and iPad can get on the internet?

My TV is connected to Comcast through the wall connector.  Will the apps on my smart TV still be able to stream content from the web?

Thank you for taking the time to explain this to me.

Hello, @user_70kuyb thank you for taking time to create a post here over Xfinity Forums. I understand wanting to get some recommendations for owned modems, and wanted to see if you saw the reply and certified equipment list from our awesome forums expert @EG

From experience, when I'm going over certified owned modems with customers, it's best to confirm if they're in an enhanced network area as they'll need a modem listed out of that section to receive higher upload speeds. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Justin,

My Xfinity account page says:

     Your Plan

Download Speed: Up to 150 Mbps

     Upload Speed: 35 Mbps

When I scroll down the page, I can selet Other Compatible modems "For Your Plan."

The Netgear CM2050V supports speeds far greater than those speeds.

It's voice enabled.  So, am I correct that the Netgear CM2050V will handle my TV and landline phone.  The router that I will buy separately is for me to create a LAN so my computers can go online?

Sorry if I need a little education on this.  It's been quite awhile that I've enjoyed having a modem/router in one device.

Thank you for your reply,

@user_70kuyb Those are great questions, and completely understand where your coming from, I've been using a combined modem/router for the past 10 years as well.

Yes, the Netgear CM2050V is voice enabled and will be able to support Xfinity Voice. It can also support your speeds as it can support:

Wired Download Speed

Up to 2.32 Gbps

Wired Upload Speed

Up to 485 Mbps

To answer the other question, yes the router is needed separately to create a WiFi LAN as the Netgear CM2050V doesn't have built in WiFi.

A good thing about getting a modem that can support the higher download and upload speeds, if you ever upgrade in the future you won't need to get a new modem.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi, Justin,

OK - I'm now clear on what the modem and router do.  Thank you!

My last question is: My TV is connected to Comcast through the wall connector.  Will the apps on my smart TV still be able to stream content from the web?  Or do I now have to connect a computer to the TV's HDMI port and stream from the Internet to my computer to the TV?  (I'm familiar with how to do that in order to use some apps that are not available in my TV.).  My Samsung smart TV has apps for Netflix and Prime that I like to use.

PS - I don't see the link for marking your last note to me as the Accepted Answer.

Best,

user_70kuyb yes, your Smart TV will be able to stream and use apps no matter how you use your Xfinity services! Are you able to get the Xfinity Stream app on your Smart TV? That would be the easiest way to stream your Xfinity services. If for some reason your TV can't get the Xfinity app it would be easier to cast from a cell phone than it would be to hook up your PC. But you could hook your PC to your TV if you wanted to. Using a Roku, or Chromecast device is also more convenient. Those are other devices that can use the Xfinity Stream app.

Thank you, Joseph.  I actually keep a computer near my TV that is hooked up via HDMI for apps that my Smart TV doesn't have, like MLB.  But the TV already has Netflix and Prime apps, and I have been using them to stream their movies.

Sincerely,
