was told my modem was worn out?
hello - I have a Motorola 8600 DOCSIS 3.1 modem I have in use with Xfinity for over 4 years now. No issues whatsoever and no uncorrected errors seen in the modem interface. Was told today that in order to get the full 12000 down and 200 up I need a new modem since mine is old and worn out. I do understand that the current network interface on the 8600 is only 1G so that's all I can expect for download but I see no reason why I shouldn't get the 200 up as Xfinity is telling me my service is provisioned at. Latest test from Xfinity speed test is 865 down and 40.2 up which was the standard upload plan for some time.
I have 32 channels bonded for download but only 4 channels bonded for upload. I know I don't control that config as it's done by Xfinity.
My question is can a modem really wear out or is this just a sales position by Xfinity?
is anyone else hearing the same message?
thanks

I have the 8600 as well but I'm on the 1gb plan and get 940 down and about 24 up usually. They just say its outdated cause it doesn't support the 1200mbps. But as far as the upload speed goes, my guess is because you aren't using Xfinity modem but your own.

Not likely that your modem is "worn out", it just isn't approved by them for either Gigabit service or the new higher upload speeds. Why? Gigabit service requires a device with a port that can run at Gig+ speeds. We don't know about the requirements for higher upload because they've never said what they are. See:
Also see the "All Compatible Devices" link near the bottom of https://www.xfinity.com/support/devices (at the moment it points to https://assets.xfinity.com/assets/dotcom/projects/cix-4997_compatible-devices/2024.04.03%20Full%20List%20of%20Compatible%20Devices.pdf, but this changes from time to time).
Realize that although Comcast calls some devices "Approved" and some "Recommended", for all but a few devices those designations only mean "approved/recommended for use with their Internet service", and not necessarily approved for the new upload speeds.
You need one of Comcast's newer rental gateways or one of the few retail devices shown in the "Next Gen Speed Tier" group with an upload speed rating in the "All Compatible Devices" PDF. Also see the Reddit link, which lists the approved retail devices as well as other requirements for faster uploads speeds. Comcast could make all of this much clearer, but they have chosen not to do so.
