Your question is not completely clear. If you mean the physical connections, you connect the WAN (Internet) port of it to a cable modem LAN port with an ethernet cord.
Type? You mean like standard ethernet, PPPoE, some sort of VPN, etc.? Should just be standard ethernet to an approved modem. Xfinity doesn't use PPPoE, VPN, etc. I'm not real familiar with all the possibilities but if PPPoE is an option pick ethernet and if that doesn't work post a list of all the options or just try anything that looks like it might mean standard ethernet & TCP/IP.
@XfinityGabriel FWIW. It doesn't sound like they are using a Comcast rented gateway device ???

My Asus RT-N66 router has a dropdown on the WAN config page titled 'WAN Connection Type'. The choices are Automatic IP, Static IP, PPPOE, PPTP and L2TP. I've always used the default of Automatic IP, which I believe uses DHCP to get an IP for the router.
There do seem, however, to be lots of Asus router owners here (me included) who sometimes have trouble getting an IP assignment even with that 'automatic' setting. If that's your problem I'd recommend taking a look at the pinned DHCP topics on the main page of the Your Home Network forum.
