VPN issues - disconnecting

I keeping having issues where my work VPN disconnects about once every hour or more.  It's unpredictable.  Running a ping test on 8.8.8 shows a delay or disconnect that correlates with the VPN disconnect.  My work IT insists it's my Internet service.  Xfinity sent out a tech who re-ran a wire, but it is still happening.  I e had same service for 5+ years and this issue only started a few weeks ago.  Help!!!

I wouldn't bother trying to get Xfinitys help. Their XB8 Modem has been nothing but, a giant headache for me. From VPNs disconnecting constantly to slow wifi speeds. If you split the wifi bands you might have a more stable connection when it comes to vpns but, it's a roll of the dice.

my work VPN uses Check Point Security VPN, and will only be connected 30-38 seconds then disconnects. I tested with another provider and no issues. How we can fix this? my modem is Xfinity XB7, Help!

I finally fixed my VPN problem, but is temp fix. I followed some of the suggestions to install a wifi router and configure my DNS to 1.1.1.1 and DNS-2 to 1.0.0.1 from Cloudfare https://developers.cloudflare.com/1.1.1.1/setup/windows/ . I had to buy an used TP-link router from Goodwill for 8 bucks and hooked up to my XB7 modem, I did not have to bridge my modem or anything. I connected my work computer to this TP link Wifi router and my VPN stays connected just fine now. Xfinity will have to come up with a real solution for this type issues or will loose customers. I almost change providers. I would suggest Xfinity to allow us to change the DNS on those rental modems if we want use a different DNS.

As a FWIW, if you are hanging a stand-alone / separate router off of the gateway device, and the gateway is not in *bridge mode*, you are cascading 2 routing devices which will result in an undesirable "double NAT" condition on your home network.

Google "double NAT" for info about its potential pitfalls. It may break some applications.

The problem with this, is that hosts connected to the Daisy Chained router could forward packets to the Internet, but it can have difficulty sending packets to hosts connected to the Edge Router. Also, since your packet has to go through NAT multiple times, this affects network performance both locally and when surfing the Internet (since the router has to deencapsulate/reencapsulate the packet and change the source and dest. IP).

A solution to this, would be to disable Router functions on the Daisy Chained Router, so this device can act solely as a switch and an AP. I also advise for you to disable DHCP on the Daisy Chained Router, as it is bad to have 2 DHCP server in the network. If you cannot disable router functions, another solution would be to enable Bridge mode. Router Mode and Bridge Mode SHOULD be a setting on a Router's GUI. If you do not find them, then you are out of luck. Also, make sure your router is NOT assigned a Public IP Address.

If you want to understand Double NAT better, I suggest you look up how NAT (Network Address Translation) works.

IF I notice poor internet performance, THEN, I'll have to switch to "bridge" mode, which I don't want to. but..we'll see. still, xfinity pls allow us to change DNS.

If the daisy chained router is taken out of router mode, can it still be used to enter alternate DNS server addresses into its networking settings ???
