Various and Extensive Ongoing Internet Problems
Hi,
I have been experiencing continuous issues with my home internet over many devices for about 5 or 6 months now. I have done everything I've been told to do. I've troubleshooted and restarted things countless times. I've had a Xfinity tech guy come out and change my router/modem and troubleshoot my internet cable. I've restarted and reset my devices countless times hoping that these problems are device related. Nothing is working. The main issues are my phone and Xbox seem to be permanently Paused and will randomly unpause and then dump out again after about a minute or two of connectivity. Both devices have been essentially useless for months in terms of connecting to internet. I use my phone data while at home if I need to do anything important.
Here are the problems in detail.
1. Permanently Paused Devices.
Phone
My personal phone is pretty much useless when connected to my home wifi. It will connect to the network and show full strength but not be able to work any apps or internet searches. Occasionally I get patches of connectivity. Mostly the connection indicator shows either full connection or it has a little "x" under it that when you press on it, tells you you need to authenticate. I have forgotten the network many times and resigned in to no avail. Sometimes my phone says it's an unsecure and asks me if I want to sign in anyway, I say yes and do not show me this message again. But even doing that it still won't connect. Sometimes it does for maybe an hour, but then it doesn't work again. At this point I do not use my home wifi on my phone. I just use my data. My home network is reliably unreliable. Nothing will work. I have restarted my phone and restarted modem/router many many times. I have resigned in to wifi many times. Nothing is working. My Xfinity app says no devices are paused.
Xbox
My Xbox will not connect to the internet at all now. Even with an Ethernet cable. You may be thinking, "oh this is an Xbox problem." Well I think it's not for a few reasons. One is that I'm having the same problems on my phone. And have had some similar issues on other devices. This device is just the worst of them all. Two I've done multiple factory resets of my Xbox and followed all the Xbox help instructions for this type of problem.
Everytime I try to go online with my Xbox it is unable to connect. Or it connects for no more than 5 minutes and dumps out. I tried to forget the network and resign in/do resets/countless turning offs and ons. Nothing works. On fact, I've done this so much that I'm unable to sign in to my Xbox account and use and games or apps because I need to be connected to internet to sign in and its impossible to sign in now.
When I try to sign in it says my device is paused and I need to go to the Xfinity app to unpause it. I go to the Xfinity app (using my data because the Xfinity app doesn't work when I try to use my wifi on my phone) and there are no paused devices on my phone. I've tried pausing and unpausing the the Xbox and my phone multiple times to see if that would reset it but it doesn't work. I've troubleshooted on the app countless times and it always tells me nothing is wrong. Or it will say I need to be connected and then I troubleshoot again and it says I have strong connection.
I also use an Ethernet cable connected to my Xbox and that doesn't work either. The Xbox says it's connected to Ethernet but not to the internet and that the device is paused. Sometimes it unpauses randomly. Then it stops working again. This is with both Ethernet and wifi.
2. Past Issues
These issues are not recent developments. My internet used to be a lot worse and all these problems happened to all my devices. After spending a long time talking to the AI helpbot thing, I finally got a guy to come out and look at my wifi. He confirmed that there were issues. And he said my internet cable was working great so it must be a router/modem problem. He gave me a new one and I set it up. Things worked better after the replacement. Some devices started working normally like my TV and laptop. My phone still had problems though (discussed above) and my Xbox. He gave me Ethernet cables for my Xbox and TV. It worked for the TV but my Xbox still had connection issues. It would say it was paused. Then it would suddenly unpause and be fine. This is with an Ethernet cable. Now it just never works at all, even with an Ethernet cable.
3. Troubleshooting
I have spent many hours over the last 5 or 6 months troubleshooting these problems. Xfinity usually says there's nothing wrong. There have been no reported outages or anything like that. Then sometimes will say there's no connection. It's very random. Mostly it says strong connection. My devices will say that I'm not connected. Even though I'll have an Ethernet cable plugged in. Often it will say the device is paused and that I need to unpause it from the Xfinity app. On my app there are no paused devices. The AI helpbot chat thing is useless because it always tells me to turn off and on everything. Already did that so many times it's infuriating to hear that suggestion again. Often it says there are no problems detected and that my device has strong connection. Wrong.
Please. Before you suggest turning my internet off and on, acknowledge that I have done this so many times I can't even count. I have done every suggestion online. I have spent months trying to fix this on my own. I have read suggestions from Xfinity, Xbox, and android support forums. I have turned every device on and off I have turned them off all at the same time, I have reset all of them, I have unplugged every plug connected to everything and waited more than 30 seconds, all of that and every combo of that.
Please what can I do? How can I get someone out here to fix this? This is very frustrating.
