Using my own modem and router

I recently activated my Arris modem and plugged the Ethernet from modem into my Netgear router however not able to join the WiFi. Am I missing something or is it not compatible? Any help would be appreciated with troubleshooting this.

Hello user_lnvj2a thanks so much for taking the time to post your questions on our Xfinity Community Forums.  Is the Arris device a modem/ Wi-Fi router combination? If it is, it will need to be put into Bridge Mode so that the Wi-Fi router can take over those functions and create a mesh network. The article below goes over how Bridge Mode works with Xfinity wireless gateways, but the process is similar, just logging into a different admin portal.

Thanks for your reply. My modem is just a modem- as far as I know. It’s the Arris SB6190 and my router is the Netgear Nighthawk R7000.

Yes, I’ve connected the Ethernet from the modem to the Netgear router.

Great set the hardwire connection is working but the Wi-Fi portion isn’t working I recommend to reach out to the manufacture of your router, you may need to re install the Netgear Nighthawk R7000,  unfortunately we wouldn't be able to troubleshoot your personal equipment for the wifi connection.

Did you powercycle / reboot the 6190 after connecting the Netgear router to it ?
