Using both Ethernet Ports on the Comcast recommended Netgear CM1100 Modem
NETGEAR Nighthawk Multi-Gig Speed Cable Modem DOCSIS 3.1 for XFINITY by Comcast
with two (2) Gigabit Ethernet port with auto-sensing technology
I can not get both Ethernet ports to work connecting to the internet at the same time. I want one to my desktop, and the other to my router.
The problem is when i try and connect my Desktop to my iMac Ethernet from the 2nd Ethernet port on the modem I get the message :
"Ethernet has a self-assigned IP Address & will not be able to connect to the Internet"
The only solution to connect the Ethernet directly to the iMac is to restart the modem which loses the Ethernet wireless Internet connection to the router.
So two will not work at the same time.
Netgear says that Comcast needs to give another WAN IP address on the other port of the modem.
You can ask your Comcast if there is an option to get another WAN IP address on the other port on the modem.
I have two ports on the Comcast recommended Modem. I would like to be able to use them both without recycling the modem.

@RLM5 Thank you for meeting us in Direct Messaging. For the time being, your account is eligible for a 2nd IP address. We do not know if/when that feature will no longer be available.
At this time, the CM110 is officially verified for up to 1.0 Gbps. It is not officially supported for getting the full 1.2 Gbps available with our Gigabit plan. Please, be sure to review our top certified speeds for each device at xfinity.com/support/devices. Thank you!

They are phasing it out but I'm going to escalate your issue to the Comcast corporate employees that are available to these boards. We've seen cases here where they have been able to get this accomplished for customers even when it is not listed in their rate cards, YMMV. You should get a reply here in your topic. Good luck !
