Using both ethernet ports on Arris T25 for separate computers

Just switched yesterday from rented modem to my own modem (Arris T25). The rented modem had 2 Ethernet ports & we could use both so that myself and a family member could both be online at the same time with our separate computers. We were able to do this yesterday before the switch. Now after many hours chatting & on the phone with "Comcast" support staff, we are still unable to use both ports at the same time & Comcast staff seem to think it's my equipment, not them. I'm thinking maybe they need to allow us to use multiple IPs, but I'm not sure what to say to phone support staff at Comcast to get this fixed.  FYI - We don't have WiFi (& don't want WiFi), but do want to be able to allow two household members to be on the internet at the same time using Ethernet ports (like we could before we changed modems). Any suggestions on how to get this worked out?

What you had before was a combination modem / router gateway device. That is why all of the ethernet ports worked. The Arris T25 is a plain vanilla cable modem. There is no router component. So only one port will work because you get only one IP address assigned to it from Comcast on a residential connection. So what you'll need to do if you want multiple simultaneous internet connections is either use a stand-alone router connected to one of the ports on the T25 cable modem or get and pay for additional IP addresses from Comcast. The problem with the latter option is that they are phasing this feature out so it likely is not even available anymore in your market area.
