The "standard" older XB3 modem does NOT support WAP3 level encryption. I learned this after the installation of the Apple 14.2 IOS update. The error message I received after re-connecting my Apple device after completing the udate was ("your network is not secure").
I had a XB3 modem with "basic" internet-only" service (the least expensive option). The Xfinity customer service representative attempted to "Upsell" me to the XB7 modmem and associated more expensive service plan. He indicated that only the XB7 modem supports WAP3 encryption (which was released in 2018). And this hardware is not available unless the customer pays for a more expensive (and unnecessary) service package/plan.
After arguing with him and informing him that my Government Agency employer requires the most robust encryption for the employees working off-site/remotely, he had a series of "text chats" with his manager and fiannly agreed to send me a new XB7 modem (at no extra charge).
So if you value your privacy & security, complain.
In my opinion, Xfinity should, as a matter of good business policy,replace/upgrade the old outdated internet gateway/modems at no cost to the customer. Considering that the equipment is leased to the customer, the custome is entitled to the most current/modern hardware & encryption.
