Use Comcast xFinity XB8-T modem as a WiFi device ONLY

When I received the modem, the first time i accessed 10.0.0.1, I got an option to setup wifi SSID & password.

2nd time connecting to 10.0.0.1, it made me reset the admin password. All well up till here.

I prefer to use this modem ONLY for WiFi and not even assign IP addresses (Bridge mode...?).

I have my own X3 modem and i prefer to continue using it, not planning to use this (XB8-T) modem to connect to Comcast through RG6 cable.

I initially turned on the Bridge mode and it seems like the wifi disappeared. Can we change this behavior? I had to factory reset it to access the modem again at 10.0.0.1

I am not seeing an option to disable dhcp...

Thank you for choosing Xfinity and joining us here on the Forums, sss121. Enabling the Bridge Mode feature on your wireless gateway turns off its routing capabilities while leaving the modem capabilities on. Then, you may connect and use your own router.

Note: Any ethernet port can be used but only one device can be connected to the gateway while in Bridge Mode.

A Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server is a network server that assigns IPs. The DHCP server “leases” your IP to you. IP addresses aren’t permanent, so yours won’t change often, but sometimes, due to system maintenance, you'll get a short-term DHCP lease. A short-term DHCP lease is a temporary IP address that expires after a set amount of time. A device that’s set up correctly will auto-renew the DHCP lease. There should be no interruption to service. Generally, issues occur to the DHCP in the following scenarios:

Power loss.
Move your computer.
Got a new router.
Reconfigure your home network.
A new router might resolve the issue. The benefit of leasing the Xfinity Gateway is we can always send a new device.
