Use both ports on Arris S33 modem
I would like to use the 2.5G port directly to my PC and the secondary 1G port to plug into my router. Arris says the only way for this to happen is for my ISP to provision me with a secondary IP address howeverr xfinity tech support did not think it was possible. is this an option for me?

It might be possible with a business account. Comcast business offers multiple IPs, static IPs, etc. AFAIK residential is always one dynamic IPv4 address. The second port on your modem is probably intended for link aggregation. E.g. you could connect two 1Gb lines to it and get an aggregate of 2Gb between the modem and router. It's pretty common for higher end routers to support link aggregation.
If it were possible to set this up it would be a bit weird. Your computer would be unable to reach anything attached to your router without setting up a port forward or VPN tunnel for it and you'd have to be careful with security on the PC since it would be directly connected to the Internet. Devices connected to the router would be able to reach the PC, but you'd have to firewall everything off because the rest of the internet would be able to see it too.
They do make routers with two 2.5Gb ports (and some with 10Gb) so you have one for WAN and one for LAN, though they're not cheap and I wouldn't bother unless you have "gigabit extra" 1200/35 service or Comcast fiber.

They are phasing it out but I'm going to escalate your issue to the Comcast corporate employees that are available to these boards. We've seen cases here where they have been able to get this accomplished for customers even when it is not listed in their rate cards, YMMV. You should get a reply here in your topic. Good luck !
